You should support .png files for uploading because when i upload .png's they always have the checkered background.

Maybe the images you uploaded were .jpeg's that look like they were png's.

Then they were bad .png files. Some companies do it wrong and decide to just put a checkered background as part of the image. The checkered background is supposed to be a placeholder for transparency.Maybe the images you uploaded were .jpeg's that look like they were png's.

Is the checkered pattern you're referring to part of the image (i.e. it doesn't line up with the background pattern) or is it the aforementioned background pattern? I was able to import a png and it was transparent.

AFAIK that's always intentional. Fake transparent PNGs (which would appear transparent in image search results) are made so they can try to get you to pay/do something else to get the actual transparent PNG.Then they were bad .png files. Also, this suggestion is already implemented. I imported a real transparent PNG and it was transparent. If you're getting any other result, it's because you have a fake transparent PNG.

In my experience, yes. Although sometimes they don't even have a real transparent .pngAFAIK that's always intentional. I've experienced this, but how is Scratch supposed to detect this?

As far as I know, this is working as planned. If you find that your .png does have a real transparent background (perhaps you can verify in another image editor), then I suggest opening a topic in “Bugs and Glitches”.
