Filter out the "R" word.
Okay, so I'm not gonna beat around the bush here. The “R” word, (Aka */*) IS A SLUR. It isn't a funny joke. It is used specifically to take fun of disabled people.

Why is it still present? I saw someone use “*” in the comments of a project, and I'm shocked it is allowed.
You wouldn't joke about the N word, why joke about the R word.
Please, for the love of whatever deity you believe in, PLEASE FLITER IT OUT. This may seem like a small thing to do but it will help many scratchers immensely!

So “r*t*r*ed”? I've heard it about 50 times when I was younger than 8, still hear it now, and have zero problems with it.

and have zero problems with it.Then I'm sure you haven't taken the time to think about how disabled people feel when they hear the word.

This word is extremely offensive, as it's used to mock disabled people. I totally agree with this suggestion, as scratch supports inclusion for everybody.

'Retarted' isn't typically directed at someone mentally disabled anymore, and is similar to calling someone an idiot or dum-dum McGee. I think it should be reported like other swears and taken care of that way.

It has it's start in medical language before making it's way to insult territory. It's like calling something autistic as a way to say idiot. Or, alternatively, using a racial slur to call someone a idiot.

you can just report it?Yes you just can, but doesn't scratch filter out swear words so there is much less of a chance for people on this website to hear them? If we do that then there will be no need to waste energy deleting comments with the word * in it.

what about innocent words that derive from it? for example, ritardando (a musical term meaning “slowing down”)

In modern language, a [EXPUNGED] is someone who is extremely slow in picking up what's going on. That's still kind of rude.
I like this suggestion – I believe saying it is already not allowed.
Possibly.

Duplicate? Thanks for the link! It does look like this is a duplicate topic in that the older topic includes (but is a bit broader than) this topic - so I'll close it to keep the conversation all in one place.
Please use the existing topic in the link above.
