I would assume it might be one of the sons of a scratch team member, or they asked a random child on the street to become a sprite and be stuck in the “Choose A Sprite” option forevermore.

He is probably a ST member, or a random MIT student who volunteered to become a sprite. I am sure his real name is not “sam”.

He is probably a ST member, or a random MIT student who volunteered to become a sprite.You have to be 18 to be ST, he does not look 18+ making that an unlikely possibility (I'm calling it unlikely just in case he is 18+ and just looks really young, it's a very blurry picture). MIT is a very prestigious college, meaning he would most like be 18+ if he was there making that possibility unlikely too.
I am sure his real name is not “sam”.Why though? It seems really random to come up with the name “Sam” for a sprite, especially considering they do allow you to share your first name if it's a common like Robert, Zachary, or Sam.

Probably back in the old ancient days of the early 2000s, a bunch of kids (most likely from the Computer Clubhouse as that was LLK's main project at the time) were testing a prototype for Scratch and one of them wanted to be immortalised into the program as a built in sprite. I can't imagine it'd be possible to get in contact with them with how little information we have about Sam

They say his eyes contain colors humans haven't seen before and that the weird blue tumor in his head can cure all sorts of disease. Or it is a disease itself.

More eye bleach pleaseOk, here's three more faces I generated.
Now I just need to get them to sing (removed by moderator – please keep it polite).
This is all on-topic, forensic research to find out what Sam looks like now (as that picture is probably very old), with real science involved
