There's already enough hate in the community… picking out one user as better than 2,999,999 others would just cause more hate.

The problem is not feature-induced popularity, it's kids with self-righteous, dishonorable egos.

As scarce as it may seem, hate occurs everywhere and it is our obligation to search and eliminate it, not strike down every advance that “appears” to create it because doing so would result in a stalemate with hate. The war on hate would turn into an uphill battle if we rid systems already implemented such as featuring projects and studios – if you think about it, those are where the most hate occurs.

But would you support the riddance of featuring projects, after all the hate that has been generated from it? I'm 120% you would not because you know how important it is to showcase the underdog of the community for his outstanding coding or drawing skills. Applying the same logic for this matter, featuring users would be fair in a sense that their obscurity from most of the community has lasted the entirety of his or her existence on Scratch, barely scrapping the few love-its from lucky passers-by.

Despite my seemingly obvious support of featuring users, on the contrary I do not. It's not hate that I find to be the bane of advance, but rather getting featured as a user becomes the highest honor to receive from the Scratch Team–far greater than that of projects and studios– and as such it demoralizes users whose projects are featured because what honor they receive pales in comparison to that from the aforementioned system. An imbalance of honor would indeed lead to feuds for the highest of positions among the front page, and arguably hate would ensue, as you claimed.

My point being, we shouldn't worry so much about hate because that gets us nowhere.
