I'm making a scale of the universe and it will use 200 costumes. i only did about 100 costumes but it's kind of lagging and i don't know whether i can do 200. Can you tell me how many costumes can fit in one sprite?

There is no limit; there's only a project size limit.

I don't believe there is an exact limit. If it starts to get laggy I recommend creating a new sprite.

I like this question! :0 With my device/browser (which is a Moto E4 Smartphone with Google Chrome) there's a limit of about 150 costumes before the lag crashes my phone, but a stronger device should definitely be able to go further.

I think a couple of kilobytes, or even sometimes bytes.
Anyways, don't worry about the limit; it should work!

There isn't a maximum number of costumes per sprite but if it starts lagging too much or it crashes or refuses to save then you probably want to have less costumes.

I don't think so, but I did make a 99 costume project and break my laptop. Given my laptop runs windows 7, it may just be me.
And it was the only sprite in the project too,

This actually isn't true anymore - there is no blanket project size limit. Instead it has been replaced by two new size limits.

I have an 8-month-old laptop that can have about 200 costumes. A bit more I think.

The project limit size is 50mb. Kind of small when you realize some games on the N64 were 64mb.

Za-Chary's 3287 follower Q&A has at LEAST 200 costumes so you should be fine.

I made an animation that have around 350 to 400 costumes (still in progress, 70% done), and it doesn't have any problems with saving, just it lags and “Aw, Snap!” messages popping up.

It depends on how large each costume is and which Scratch version you're using (if it's 3.0, then no, but they must each be less than 10MB, which is a limit in 2.0 and 3.0) due to 2.0 and 1.x having a 50MB and 10MB project size limit.
