Right now, text made in Scratch are only limited to 9 fonts. Could we add a 10th option of “show more” that brings up a font picker with a bunch more fonts?

We could use the Google Font library, which, according to their Github, “Most of the fonts in the collection use the SIL Open Font License, v1.1. Some fonts use the Apache 2 license. The Ubuntu fonts use the Ubuntu Font License v1.0.”

This could give Scratchers much more variety in their projects and fonts (instead of having to really as much on websites like cooltext.com). We could also keep it simple by just having a “show more” option. This would have a popup with a list of more fonts that could then be chosen from. Even if we don't add every font, some (like Orbitron or Monoton) would be really cool to see in projects!

Check out https://fonts.google.com/ to see how many options there would be. We could have all of them, or we could pick a bunch of dissimilar fonts (to prevent scratchers from feeling overwhelmed) and put them together. I'd prefer all of them and maybe have a few “featured” fonts that are the most used or most unique, but that way, Scratchers wouldn't be as limited in their projects.

There will be the default Google ones, then the downloaded ones

They also have an API (https://developers.google.com/fonts/ ) we could use to get the fonts from their website, along with having the fonts in a Github repo (https://github.com/google/fonts ).

Great idea @2br-2b! This would be very helpful to the Scratch Community and give hem more than just a few fonts. The fonts could really match with more game genres!
