They're all quite old, but well worth listening to if you're into rock or just want to expand your musical tastes.

I am not surprised. Dream Theater is not very well-known outside of the progressive metal genre.

There were always inappropriate and bad songs. There can be some real gems nowadays if you look hard enough. I enjoy Macklemore to death, and Paramore and Fall Out Boy can be interesting. Its all just a matter of taste. I honestly agree with you, but it all comes down to tastes.

i can assure you there are thousands of bands out there like that. probably more than that. if you were to go to an event where a local band was playing, there's a pretty large chance they'll be guitar-oriented. you just gotta look, and you'll find it, i assure you! any kind of rock music - indie pop, grunge, noise rock, rap rock, experimental rock, psychedelic pop, heavy metal. you'll find it. sure, it's not exactly present in the charts, but if i were to pull out the year-end charts for any given year from any decade, there would be a surprising lack of the rock music we remember from those times. the 80's pop charts were crammed with dance, synthpop, and awful cheese-rock. the early half of the 70's comprised of bubblegum, sappy balladry, and soul music; while the latter half of the 70's were clogged with disco and yacht rock. no led zeppelin on those charts, folks.
