Are some of the ST's posts automated?

We all remember this post, right? (When a topic is closed for being a duplicate)

Thanks for the link! It does seem like this is a duplicate topic so I'll close it to keep the discussion in one place.
Please use the existing topic in the link above.

Also when someone makes a list of suggestions…

Please create a separate topic for each suggestion you have, rather than creating a list of suggestions. That way, the conversation stays focused and each idea can get the attention it needs.

Before making a new topic, please check out the following:
The Official List of Rejected Suggestions. If your suggestion is in this list, please do not make a new topic about it, as it will not be implemented anyway.

The Suggestions Directory. If your suggestion is in this list, please continue the discussion in the existing topic, rather than making a new topic.
Thank you!

Which makes me think that they have created automated programs to write those posts, and all they need to do is tell the computer which post to write. IT just seems correct, because they write their own posts when they do add to the discussion. Is this correct?

No, the ST just really like to copy and paste things.

Wait, is Paddle a robot?

The ST copy and paste things so that they can make their work easier. which makes it shorter to finish a report, which makes it so they can solve even more reports to help keep Scratch a friendly place.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ST uses some kind of extension/toolbar/whatnot that gives them programmable macros, and these boilerplate responses are the result of macros. Of course, this is just me speculating, but I'll let you decide for yourself if that counts as “automation” or not.

Also, you probably didn't notice, but did you know that every ST member has their own set of boilerplate responses?

robot kittehs
They're not exactly automated, but they're definitely a copy-and-paste. They most likely do that to save time because they have to handle hundreds of reports, moving topics, closing topics, etc. It definitely saves lots of time on the moderation side.

I usually copy/paste those common responses — because they're good responses and handwriting them each time isn't necessary. I can't speak for other Scratch Team members, though.

I didn't notice that before, but you're right:

From my own experience, every moderator has their own styles and voice. Some might be more direct, while others might elaborate or put more detail into the post.

Unless the process of moderating is very automated (which, in many cases, it is not), I just use my “phrase bank” notepad to copy-paste responses to others. It's quick and easy, while still getting the main message across.

If they were robots, they would sometimes close topics that weren't supposed to be closed.
like harakou oh, he's just eliminating guides. He's not a robot… or is he?

Looks like this topic has been resolved. I'll ask a moderator to close it to prevent future necroposting.

I used to use a browser extension that would expand short text “keywords” into full phrases that I had pre-entered into it. However, it was a bit buggy so I ended up writing my own version in Autohotkey (a macro language for Windows). When, for example, if I want the message that I put for folks that put up a list of suggestion ideas, I just type “for_blocklist” and then hold down the Control-Spacebar keys and it finds a text file by that name that I have and substitutes it for that word. It saves me a ton of time because, as you know, we see the same situations showing up again and again.
