I have recently been working on voice commands in scratch i knew that voice recognition is not a thing in scratch but i knew it would be possible one day. about an hour later i realise that using the voice recognition and text to speech would be dangerous giving the ability for live voice chats
My first solution was to block users from using both extensions but you will need the text to speech for the voice assistant to reply to your commands

The Scratch 3.0 BETA version included a teaser thumbnail for a voice recognition extension but it seems like the project has been delayed for the time being. Hopefully the Scratch Team will reconsider and begin working on the extension again. Until then, you can still use the “ask” block for the user to type commands to the virtual assistant.

This might cause some trouble for some user (like me) also Internet Privacy

From what I understand, this is still in development… Also, voice chats shouldn't be a problem as there would be no way for people to speak to one another using this.

Actually, it might be possible for somebody to talk into a project, encode their words in a cloud variable, and then decode the cloud variable on the receiving computer. Making a whitelist for voice chats probably would work, however kind of pointless as you could just select a whitelisted word instead of having to speak it.

sum: Voice chats are possible. Whitelists for voice chats would be very easily replaced with text chats again.

True, but FaceTime is live chat and that worked out fine… if we can do it on FaceTime and other apps why can’t we do it on Scratch?

Rather than being against speech recognition, let’s make it happen! It’s a great update and if live chat is really concerning, why can’t we just report if something inappropriate is brought up on live chat?

Live chat is not just another thing that can be reported; when you see someone's face and you talk with them and collect details it's in your head forever.

You could just activate normal chat and video recognition extension and then just use the information in the chat to power a voice engine and then tere you have it, video chat.
But make sure you have a safelist and also this is @1werentallowed

Because this is a kids site… and you can chat with strangers, not friends and family.

i think the scratch team decided not to, there was a time where this technically did exist and did work but that time is over.

This could be used to record everything the user says and use it to trace them. Bear in mind that this could be an invasion of privacy.
