Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
although it isn't constructiveWell, it practiacally says that you would like to see a unique thing in it which would set it apart from others. And maybe the developer realizes that they more or less just copied stuff.

@jaguar1501 Calling a generic platformer generic definitely isn't mean, although it isn't constructive.Well, it's not a huge insult. What I meant is that a lot of people would be offended if someone called their work generic.
EDIT: And I agree with the ‘not constructive’ part too.

Yes, but it doesn't say what that unique thing is, and it could leave the creator of the project stuck for ideas on what to add.although it isn't constructiveWell, it practiacally says that you would like to see a unique thing in it which would set it apart from others. Well, I guess it's the developer's job to have some ideas, especially since the code is just backpacked from griffpatch.Yes, but it doesn't say what that unique thing is, and it could leave the creator of the project stuck for ideas on what to add.although it isn't constructiveWell, it practiacally says that you would like to see a unique thing in it which would set it apart from others. Generic platformers don't teach people a lot despite what people say

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
Generic platformers don't teach people a lot despite what people sayWhat I find to be really awful is that mostly the level design is really bad and boring. A few weeks ago I always thought, “Well, it's an engine, someone has coded a not too bad engine, so it's not that bad” but it's completely backpacked or at least made with a tutorial.

@jaguar1501 Calling a generic platformer generic definitely isn't mean, although it isn't constructive. It is actually pretty judgmental and unconstructive. Seems to me that there is a bit of elitism going on here.
Remember that the top loved and top remixed rows are pretty much entirely just about popularity - not about “quality”, however you want to define that. Or diversity. Or anything else. I remember when hamster drawings were all the rage and all over the front page. It was a fad - it came and went. See what you can do to make the next big thing rather than grousing about the fickle focus of the teaming crowds.
Also remember that what might be easy for you is not necessarily easy for somebody else.

Generic platformers don't teach people a lot despite what people sayIt teaches them how to backpack and use the fill tool. Is that enough?

Why do so many generic platformers get top loved?
Remember that the top loved and top remixed rows are pretty much entirely just about popularity - not about “quality”, however you want to define that.Well, the remix bar is pretty much always full of garbage, I almost never look at it. It just says how remixable a project is - one of the things I really don't care about. But top loved, that's an entirely different thing. Top loved means that it's popular, and how should your project get popular without being good?

The “Projects loved by Scratchers I'm following” pane has taken the place of the explore tab for me, because it's the only area on this website not infested by platformers.

I think that getting on the front page should be something special for good projects. When you want to see what you can do on scratch with experience. I think that those platformers are really not the best part of scratch.

all platformers should be marked NFEAll? Not every platformer is “generic” and inapppropriate.

actually a good point my bad it has nothing to do with it being “inapropiate” it has to do that they are the same thingall platformers should be marked NFEAll? Not every platformer is “generic” and inapppropriate.

The “Projects loved by Scratchers I'm following” pane has taken the place of the explore tab for me, because it's the only area on this website not infested by platformers. It kind of has for me too, except the people I'm following are usually not interested in the same things I am so I rarely find good things there. I've basically given up on finding projects I like at this point.

I can create a generic platformer in half an hour its actually so simple all you need to know is simple variable logic and some logic on motion blocks and thats it.

Try the featured projects row. That's controlled by the ST, and they won't put very many generic platformers thereThe “Projects loved by Scratchers I'm following” pane has taken the place of the explore tab for me, because it's the only area on this website not infested by platformers. It kind of has for me too, except the people I'm following are usually not interested in the same things I am so I rarely find good things there.
