I believe it's because it can be difficult to trace where it goes to without actually clicking it so something something inappropriate content

it can sometimes be good, to save space

well ya could input your link into a text-shortener since those links work

Link shorteners are not allowed on the main site and I made a suggestion to block them from the forums like YouTube videos.

The problem with other users adding bit.ly links is that not everyone always knows where a link will take you, and sometimes a seemingly perfect link can take you to unsafe websites. However it is okay for the Scratch Team to use in their YouTube videos because they know what their link is.

Not a bug.
