I've seen a bunch of accounts that are very similar. I sometimes look up good account names with the scratch url, and whenever I enter a username like “cat” “dog” “ball” “blue” I get accounts with absolutely nothing on them, except for occasionally followers. All of the accounts are, from the time of writing, 7 years and 2 months old. Hmmm….

This is actually something called ‘name-sniping’. Basically, when a new kind of social media (I know that whether or not Scratch is a form of social media is currently a very popular question, but, in this topic, by social media I mean a website or application that has different usernames that can be searched up by others) is released to the public, people will create accounts with names like ‘cat’, ‘dog’, etc., and then they will just forget about their account. The reason why people follow these accounts is so that when people look in their ‘what’s happening' section of the Scratch homepage, it will say:

<username> is following <username that was taken a long time ago>

Following these usernames is kind of like a way to prank everyone following you.

Not always; I think some users just follow such accounts because they like the username.

I think that they are bot accounts. It's like they are very old accounts with random usernames. I think a bot would type in a random thing in the username and do nothing. And what is more strange is that people comment on these accounts using @
