Can you please actually IMPLEMENT the features we ask for?
I decided to leave Scratch last week due to it not being advanced enouh but then a thought struck me: where are the suggested features?
For me (I don’t know about you) the ST comes across as insistent and lazy, mostly due to the Suggestions forum. There are over 1100 pages and counting in this forum, and considering it’s 20 topics per page, that’s over 22000 topics. Now, of course, that’s accounting for the duplicates, April fools and topics in the wrong forum, but even then, I would expect over 5000 ‘legit’ topics. Many of these topics have over 20 supporters, and there are of course the popular suggestions like shift key and custom reporters that get thousands of replies and topics. The ST did 3.0, they could implement custom reporters, right? Well how many of the suggestions were implemented?
NONE.
Why is that, you ask? There are a number of contributing factors, mainly the ‘it’s rejected’ or ‘too confusing for kids’ type. I’ve even seen ST members say SUPPORT in several topics, but they seem to be focusing more on new scratchers than adding new features. They fixed things that weren’t broken?
Now, of course they can’t implement every suggestion, but there are a few that are going to drastically improve Scratch, like first-class lists / vars.
I may be staying on Scratch if you actually listen to us, but, the moment I press submit, I’m gone.
(Ironically, they also rejected the removal of the suggestions subforum, even though there’s almost no use of it being there due to what I said above.)

Scratch's open-source, why not you make all these suggestions as well as moderate a site with hundreds of thousands of users from donations alone.

Plus, some still do, and just because one may “support” an idea, doesn't mean it's going to be implemented. I've seen ST members stating, usually every time, that “this their own thoughts and they don't represent the ideas on the entire team”.I’ve even seen ST members say SUPPORT in several topics,If you're talking about @Za-Chary, it was before he became a Scratch Team member.
For me (I don’t know about you) the ST comes across as insistent and lazy, mostly due to the Suggestions forum.First off, that's just plain rude, second, do you understand how busy they already are? The Dev team is not big at all, and they have much greater priorities, such as fixing bugs/issues, these generally not being some “poof, done” thing that takes a minute to fix.
Many of these topics have over 20 supporters, and there are of course the popular suggestions like shift key and custom reporters that get thousands of replies and topics.Supports ≠ Implementation
(Ironically, they also rejected the removal of the suggestions subforum, even though there’s almost no use of it being there due to what I said above.)There actually have been quite a few things that have been implemented from suggestions. Plus, everyone has ideas and suggestions for everything. Minecraft has a forum where you can make suggestions. Are many of these implemented? No. That, really, is just how it works.
Please, be happy with what we have, and be a little more appreciative of the team's hard work.

Features aren't implemented based on how many supporters they have,, they're implemented based on whether they would be useful and beneficial to Scratch, and whether it's actually possible to implement them. It might seem like not many suggestions are implemented, but there are likely good reasons (and lots of suggestions that WERE actually implemented).

For me (I don’t know about you) the ST comes across as insistent and lazy, mostly due to the Suggestions forum.Seriously? You're calling the team that develops, moderates, and runs this website (then gives it away for free) “insistent and lazy”? Really? Even though they get funding from several companies, that doesn't mean we get a license to tell them what to do and then get mad at them for not doing it. At the end of the day, the Scratch Team does what they think is best for the website — they are not our servants. If you're wondering what types of suggestions the Scratch Team is looking for, I recommend you check out their design goals. Here's a quote from that post that seems especially relevant here:
Because we have limited time and resources, new developments that make the program easier and more inviting for newcomers are a higher priority than adding advanced programming features. (Thankfully there are other graphical programming languages that are continuing to add powerful advanced features.)
Also, here's a quote from Paddle2See* that you may wish to read:
(source)So…would you support putting a fee on Scratch so we can hire more developers? Probably not - and that's not the direction that the team intends to go anyway, so far as I know. But that is what it comes down to - it's a small team that has a lot on it's plate. We implement what makes sense, that we can afford, and that fits into our goals for Scratch.I support anything that makes more suggestions get implemented. So do I.
We do appreciate the suggestions from the Community. However, there are a lot that don't meet our design goals or would cost too much to implement. We don't reject them outright - they are still cool ideas - but they also aren't likely to be implemented unless there is a big change in funding or ST design goals.
(I've edited my post somewhat from its original form, as well as added to it)

Are you serious? This is absolutely ridiculous. Do you know how ungrateful you sound? You do realize that the Scratch Team work very hard to make sure that you have a fun and safe experience here learning how to code and then here you are calling them lazy and complaining that they don't add suggestions? Unbelievable. And I'll have you know that they have implemented suggestions such as removing the eggplant emoji, adding subtitles on the Scratch Video Updates and many more that I don't remember right now only because it's been a while since I saw the list.
Now I am absolutely baffled by the fact that you would even dare to call the Scratch Team lazy so I'll talk a little bit about how not-lazy they are. The only people who add things are the developers and there is not a lot of those. These people work so hard to ensure that everyone from 8-16 can enjoy this website, they're not going to implement every suggestion out there. It's not like it only takes 5 minutes to add something, it takes work. Before calling people who work so hard to try and make sure you're happy lazy, how about you run a website like this. How about you moderate a website made for children, you add these suggestions, and you run it all based off donations. Then after you've done all that and you've found it easy, you can go ahead and call the Scratch Team lazy but until then just be grateful for what you have.

There's a suggestion that was implemented- that no one supported.
It was the “remove the eggplant emoticon” suggestion.

For me (I don’t know about you) the ST comes across as insistent and lazy, mostly due to the Suggestions forum. The developers are not our servants, they are not going to wait on us and add every thing we want to the site. These are adults who know how to code and make a website, we are children who are learning how to code from them. By no means are we the ones in power.
There are over 1100 pages and counting in this forum, and considering it’s 20 topics per page, that’s over 22000 topics. Many of these topics have over 20 supporters, and there are of course the popular suggestions like shift key and custom reporters that get thousands of replies and topics.Supporters means nothing, neither does popularity.
The ST did 3.0, they could implement custom reporters, right?Haha, that's not how it works. They made 3.0 because Flash is ending and 2.0 ran on Flash so they needed to change how the site ran. You are currently comparing website functionality and the ability to make a block.
Well how many of the suggestions were implemented?Wrong. There are many suggestions that have been added.
NONE.

They fixed things that weren’t broken? If it's rejected, it's for a good reason. Scratch needs to be able to be used by little kids, they don't want to overwhelm starters. And if they fixed it, it was broken.
I may be staying on Scratch if you actually listen to us, but, the moment I press submit, I’m gone. Are you kidding? You are going to leave because the people who devolved this website aren't our servants?
(Ironically, they also rejected the removal of the suggestions subforum, even though there’s almost no use of it being there due to what I said above.)There is a use. See bigpuppy's post for more, I don't want to quote it because my post is already way too long.

Just because you didn't see the Scratch Team implement anything doesn't mean they aren't. May I ask you for evidence? I have certainly seen quite a few suggestions being implemented.
I'd kindly request you to see all the repositories and code the Scratch Team is working on.

They should add something to the Community Guidelines like “Be grateful for the Scratch Team - They are the reason that you are on this site!”
Seriously. They have given us all we need to learn the fundamentals of coding, and you're accusing them of not implementing every single suggestion that was ever suggested? That makes me sad.

I have never seen a topic that made me more mad. They give us so much, the least we can do is not complain when they don't add a suggestion.

The features are not implemented because they don't benefit the Scratch Website in any way. Be grateful for what the scratch team does to keep this website smooth and running, and especially for implementing some suggestions.

The ST only implements things that are absolutely needed, not any random thing. Many of my points have been covered by users above, so I won't say too much.

Please continue the discussion in the link above. That way, the conversation sticks in one place, rather than being scattered across the forums.

Hey all. I understand that it's frustrating to feel like your ideas are being ignored, but as others have pointed out, this probably isn't a very relevant suggestion. There are many great suggestions on this forum, and we do read them. However, we often simply don't have the resources to implement them, or we think they don't fit with the design goals of Scratch. As I've said before, we want Scratch to be the best it can be, but it also doesn't have to be everything for everyone.
