I'll ask a moderator whether it should be closed, though. Both of these topics still count as a nickname, according to me.
i don't believe it's rejected. this is a dupe. but this should honestly be merged because well, this topic that we are on now has more constructive posts than the other.

Changing Your Username (READ BEFORE POSTING!!!)

Can you please explain how a “display name” is any different from a “nickname”, but reworded? I still think it's a nickname, which, as I and PFTV have both said, is rejected. I know, you use it to tag people, but does that make it any different from a “nickname”?

a nickname is the first word of your whole name (example: john doe)
a display name is a username that will display on your profile

Sorry, that sounds just like a nickname to me - which was previously rejected, I believe.

If you want to be called something other than your account name, just explain that on your profile and hopefully people will start doing it.
