Recently, I created a new atmospheric title by the name of Mum. This is a highly experimental game as this is my first time trying to make a game with a tense and creepy atmosphere.

The game starts with an over-protective Mum and her son arguing about letting him leave for that night. The son returns promptly at about midnight, but the door's locked. Can you find the key?

Although this may seem like a boring synopsis, the story takes off from here and the Mum begins to find out things about her Son she never knew before.

You can play the demo version by clicking on the picture below. I hope you enjoy playing what's there already!

Before playing, please look at the names of people who voice in the demo and the names of the people who will be voicing in the full game:
@StevenTheSquare - Mum
@OldGranny4Life - Dan
@4aidken944, @iamjustakid24 - Dan in the flashback scenes
@ObOP789, @Scratch-Mation - News Broadcasters

If you can't solve or get through the demo, then I can post a spoiler-free walkthrough.

very cool concept, is this also being developed outside of scratch? it could definitely do well.
for now, something i noticed is that when examining the closet once amelie has to go find a key, her name doesnt pop up during the text(unless thats on purpose)

Thanks. It's not being developed outside of Scratch, but maybe when I've got a little bit more experience with game development outside of Scratch, I could come back to the project and re-create it with the original sounds and everything. When it comes to her name not appearing, it is usually on purpose. Her name will only appear if it is something she is saying. If not, her name won't appear. Because of that, things like: ‘You picked up the key’ etc. won't have her name written alongside it. P.S. Nice PFP!

Ok. I found 2 occurring bugs. One, when the chandelier fell, I walked past it and went into the bedroom. Then I got out of the bedroom and walked over it, and it disappeared! Two, when you are talking with Dan on the phone, Amelie’s hand disappears and reappears every time you press space after someone is finished talking.

Hi. The game isn't actually that scary, and I've seen many other users create seemingly scary content nothing like what is seen in my project. I've toned down the violence + scary content to a degree that it isn't too scary to be taken down, as said by Scratch Community Guidelines.

The game has clear warnings set before it, and I am asking for consent from a Scratch Team member to allow it on Scratch. Please don't report it and get it banned because I've worked on this game for months on end now, and I don't exactly want it taken down at the stage of development it is currently at.

Some users are creating more controversial content too, e.g. @Berricake is creating a murder mystery with implied death in it. All horror in my game is implied through text, so is therefore not so obvious to the viewer (especially younger viewers). Please don't target me in particular, thank you.

Also, this uses most older horror clichés so it won't be as scary as the horror films you see today.

Please don't create a horror game on Scratch. I'm pretty sure it's against the rules.
Something extra, I'm contacting a Scratch Team member about whether the game is okay via the ‘Contact us’ button about keeping it on the website (I'm very sure it is allowed, as it wasn't really made with a scary atmosphere in mind, it just turned out that way the more and more I developed the game). Scratch clearly states that for a project to be banned, it needs to be very violent and way too scary for young viewers to handle. The worse this project can suffer is an NFE marking, which is only given to a project if it has a few jumpy moments or a creepy image or two (the creepy image in my project is simply two red blobs indicating two red eyes, and you only get it if you let a phone ring 8 times). I'm not so bothered about an NFE marking, as people can still see my game either way.

It has been made clear that the project's atmosphere may be too tense for some viewers (yet again, it's not exactly tense, but I'm putting the warning there for people who are very sensitive), so I'm not leaving people with no warning of the content that may be possibly scary to some viewers. I know most of the rules in good detail, so I am really trying my hardest to abide by them as much as humanly possible for a game like this. So sorry for the long message, just want to get some things clear.

Some other things to exemplify my point include the fact that Scratching Dawn (a successful and very famous horror title on the Scratch site) was never taken down. This project has way worse brutality in terms of its horror compared to mine. As well as this, my project contains no blood, no gore, minimal jump scares and minimal scary images; whilst in Scratching Dawn it does has constant scenes of characters in peril (e.g. pretty shocking scenes for a Scratch game if I may say so myself), a few jump scares and quite a few scary images (e.g. the way pico looks in some of the scenes is a lot more startling than the minimalistic art of my game). You can find the Scratching Dawn game here: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/334887635/

If a game like this is allowed, then why can't mine? Thank you for reading this far.
