I'm trying to get a good sample of any MP3 files that load up as a blank sound file, as described in this recent topic

It was worked on and subsequently closed. If it has reappeared, I would really like to get it fixed again.

Does anybody have some free time and feel like doing some detective work? Maybe you could locate or generate a series of MP3 files of different flavors and try uploading them to Scratch and letting us know which (if any) fail to load? That would be an awesome help

I've lurked around in the forums and it looks like many Scratchers are having MP3 trouble again. They don't seem to give any information; they're just saying it won't upload. I ask them to try converting it to .WAV for the time being and see how it works.

EDIT: Typo and grammar. The semicolon still lives.

That's good advice: WAV is a good workaround - it's been pretty reliable. But if you see any more, please send them this way so I can get a sample file. It would be better to fix the problem than to keep working around it

Still looking for MP3 files that don't upload into Scratch successfully.

I've only had a problem with MP3 files only once, but that was about 6 months ago.
Then again, I do process my MP3 files in Audacity before uploading them - perhaps it's something to do with the encoding?

Very possible! I'm not an audio file expert by any means, but I understand that there are a number of variables in the MP3 file format - which is why it's hard to say for sure that MP3 is working for all cases. There may be combinations of variables that are still failing to load properly - so if you hear of any cases, please send them this way

Or, if anyone has the time and the desire to be a detective, they might try generating a number of different MP3 files from different sources and uploading them to Scratch and see if they fail. That would be very helpful

I actually had an mp3 come up as blank sometime this Winter? I think it was Winter. Anyway, sure! I'll act as a detective for you and try uploading some music while working on vector art.

I had to convert my m4a file to mp3 using iTunes because it wouldn't even show up when I changed the tag at the end, although it did work in Scratch 1.4.

Possibly related to the disappearing costume bug.

I loaded the BattleBlock Theater Main theme mp3 file. It didn't take any time to convert, but it was blank.




Probably the cause of those Bugs with blank mp3 files is that the mp3 file you want to upload is because it might be too long for it to handle.

I could do that. I will get MP3's from different websites and from my computer and see what happens.

This is the kind of thing I am looking for! Is there a website where I can get my hands on the mp3 file? Or, do you have a dropbox account that you can put it on so I can try it myself?

Thanks - but I think this is related to another bug we've been seeing recently, where assets are being corrupted by something going on with our servers - a very serious bug, but not the one I'm tracking down here.

Um… With my windows xp, it usually doesn't load up sounds at all, especially with large sounds

I downloaded a mp3 file and It desplayd only a bit of sownd

That's what I'm looking for! Where did you download it from? Can I download it too?

I'll follow this discussion, and I will try to look for any blank MP3, because I swear that happened once or twice.
