Thoughts on The Giver movie?

NOTE: CONTAINS SPOILERS!

After months of waiting, I finally watched the movie adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver. After seeing the trailers, I was expecting a movie that was either kind of good or a complete abomination of the book. I knew that Lois Lowry was pretty comfortable with it and all, but I was still terrified… no, apprehensive. (Reference to the book.) When I started watching, there were some things that I was made uncomfortable by. They were all pretty unimportant things like how I was bothered that Jonas same so close to saying the “apprehensive” thing but he never did or that the characters sometimes had these awkward pauses between words. The movie had way more action but oddly was less violent and traumatizing than the book. My last complaint is that I thought Odeya Rush wasn't how I thought of as Fiona. She's a great actor, it's just that she didn't fit my idea of the part. I liked Taylor Swift as Rosemary, though.
Now, there were a lot of things that were great about the movie.
Jeff Bridges is awesome in pretty much anything, so I wasn't surprised that I liked him as The Giver. Meryl Streep was the same. When I saw all those memories from the past and all this culture and beauty and I GOT DA FEELZ OH GASH I NARLY CRID ITS SO BEETIFULL1!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!
I mean, that's how I felt.
There's so much more that was great, but I'm really lazy so let me just say this- the movie was great.
Now, the ending.
Many people hate the ambiguous ending of the book. I loved it. When I learned that the companion books revealed Jonas's fate, I was displeased. The ending was great as it was- thought-provoking, beautiful, and maybe slightly sad.
The movie took an interesting turn.
The film made the good ending a little more obvious, which wasn't terrible. Also, they added two unnecessary sentences at the end. I wish it had ended with “but perhaps it was only an echo.” like the book. But you don't have to take my word for it! (did I just quote Reading Rainbow?) The movie was great, so please go see it BUT READ THE BOOK FIRST OR YOU WILL BE MAULED AND EATEN BY KITTENS WITH ROBOT SPIDER LEGS.
