No support. I get where you're coming from, but it would be confusing without the follower count. Maybe we could make it easier for unpopular Scratchers to get noticed!
that has absolutely nothing to do with this. my suggestion was made to try and stop people from thirsting for popularity on an educational website. if you don't get noticed, you don't get noticed. Just be happy that you have the opportunity to learn how to code for free.

Stop, we will not be using support and no support on this topic. What you did is even worse, you DIDNT add to the discussion.

If your gonna post, your either gonna leave constructive ideas on how to improve this suggestion, or explain IN FULL DETAIL the downsides of this suggestion. Saying support and no support is useless, and it just takes up space.

No support, even if the follower amount isn't directly visible to the public, there are users who will still find a way to show off how many followers they have, even if this suggestion was to be implemented (and I doubt it would be), it would be next to useless, people would still brag and show off like they do now. I also like to congratulate my friends on having a certain amount of followers as well. And making the number not visible to any user would just be problematic, I assume you could just count yourself, but what about the people who use the number to do events for their followers? I'm going to do an event for 500 soon, and not being able to view the amount of followers I have would suck, I stand by my no support.

And? I do follower milestones because I like giving out appreciation, if your argument is true (that it's an educational site not youtube), we might as well get rid of followers altogether.

A follower should only exist so the follower is notified of new content by the creator. So basically, we are removing the famous part of followers, not followers altogether.

That shouldn't have to be the only reason, followers follow their friends too, do I want to see their updates? Not necessarily. I follow them because 1) They are my friend, and 2) Because I think they deserve another follow. If you don't like the way scratch works you might as well leave, because I doubt that the Scratch Team is getting rid of the followers bar anytime soon.

And what exactly is 1 follow going to do? Is it going to save a life? Is it going to help you get a better job? Is it going to help you become more advanced in coding? NO! But, actually using Scratch to learn, by just starting out with scratch, that can make your life 10 times better! This number is taking over peoples minds!

I agree with you that it doesn't do any of those things, you know what it does give? Motivation, it gives me the motivation to keep scratching, to keep doing what I do because people like my work.

Ok, I feel like this topic right now is going to derail soon with replies going back and forth from the same two people. I myself don't completely support the current suggestion, but it does try to address the “popularity” game that's in Scratch, and I can get behind that. I feel like removing the followers bar completely will take a bit too much, but an option to either hide the followers bar (so that either you can't see another person's follower bar, or so that other people can't see your followers) will help close the gap just slightly (Actually, I can't tell if this will actually help spread the word to people that followers shouldn't be for show or bragging rights). Then again, I don't know much about this subject.

Oh hi signature reader! Thanks for reading this post. I’m BFDISuperFan, and I really love rhythm games. Oh, and while you’re here reading this, if you also like rhythm games, how about you go try out my attempt at porting DDRMAX2 on Scratch?
I'm also attempting to recreate beatmania IIDX 15: DJ TROOPERS on Scratch, but right now it's just a glorified animation gallery, check it out if you're interested!

Exactly, I'm up for an option to hide it, but not remove it, I'm up for almost anything to address this popularity game

There's just going to be one thing that I think will always remain an integral part of the Scratch community, whether it's wanted or not. This website is used primarily by children. Teens and adults too, but mainly children. And you know that people won't always be the most mature when the target audience consists of children. Many of them will hop on the bandwagon, follow trends, do what the ‘cool kids’ are doing. And if someone is doing F4F, then oh boy, that's the new hot ticket to popularity to them. But if some large Scratchers started hiding their followers bar, and some used an inciting reason such as “Real scratchers don't need to show off”, then this might tap into the bandwagon hoppers, that the new trend is keeping your popularity a mystery to newcomers. Who knows? It could work, just not in the best way maybe.

Maybe. And for people like you who do follower milestones, even if you hide your follower bars so that other people can't see them, you can, and know precisely how many followers you have. And to be fair, it would probably be hard enough to try and compare your popularity with someone who won't show you their follower bar anyways.

I personally don't really understand how this could help people, because some people will always just be on Scratch for the ‘fame’, and some people will always advertise. I'm sorry, I just don't really see how this could benefit the site. In my opinion, people who are going to advertise, beg for f4f, or just beg for followers, and I don't think that anything will stop that. Sorry
