Don't bump a forum topic until after 24 hours AND it is not on the first page
Sorry but no support. Due to the recent pandemic there has been SO much activity on scratch that if we all waited 24 hours to bump our topic it could be on the 5th page already, even more for foumrs like Requests and Collaborations.
That's why I suggested 6-12 hours *shrugs*

I see where you're coming from, though — it's a vicious cycle.

Semi-support, but I think it should be ultimately up to how relevant the topic still is.

Support, topics often get to the second page very quickly so this would decrease the amount of bumps a lot.

Support.
I enjoy this rule but it really gives a spammy vibe and I still remember when someone was mad at @Maximouse for just bumping their topic because it was on the second page.
but that won't stop me from bumping my topic like crazy UNTIL THIS GETS IMPLEMENTED MUAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA-

No support. If I could only bump my shop every 24 hours it would be pages back and nobody would see it.

No support. If I could only bump my shop every 24 hours it would be pages back and nobody would see it.This would actually be a good thing for the Requests forum though, because the other shops can only bump every 24 hours too, so your shop would be seen, and also the actual requests would be seen. Currently, only shops are ever seen in the Requests forum.

Since Requests is capitalism's final omega form that Wall Street investors would dream of controlling, there's a much higher incentive to having your topic on the first page and only being able to bump your new found shop every 24 hours (having it not be on the first page is irrelevant due to how busy that market is) would be detrimental to small businesses and only benefit the bigger, more established businesses. No support. If I could only bump my shop every 24 hours it would be pages back and nobody would see it.But other people could also only bump their shops every 24 hours.
Of course, it may be a better course of action for shop owners to just keep adding words onto their title until they reach the character limit to seem more imposing on the directory, but the culture of the Requests forum is so different from the rest of the forums that this rule may not work on that particular subforum without some modification.
On forums like Questions about Scratch and Suggestions, I see a rule like this as far more valid as the flow of posts on the front page is quite fast (faster than what I'm used to when I was super active on the forums) so anything to slow that down and help satisfy those people who would otherwise be mad for having their topic kicked off page 1 in 3 hours is action that I think would have a positive impact on that subforum.

-snip-A good point there. As long as we're advocating for this rule change to be a “social norm,” perhaps we could collectively agree to only implement it on certain forums. I don't browse the Requests forum often, but I could reasonably see the Requests forum not needing to abide to my new proposed rule. I'm not sure if I can think of any other forums, though — I think this new rule could fit most of or all the rest.

I do hope that, at the very least, users of the Requests forum know the “or” rule and don't just bump their topics every few hours when they feel like it, even if it's on the first page.

I guess that on certain forums that would make sense, such as show and tell (because out of my understanding you can bump it. I don't know how many people know they can but if they did show and tell would be going like crazy) but I feel that 24 hours on some forums is a tad much, and I like the idea of 6-12 hours, changing on the type of forum.

Are there any specific forums where it could be spammy? A lot of us think it might be a good idea to implement it in only some forums, such as excluding it on suggestions (but personally I think we should definitely add that to show and tell).

The only one I can think of that possibly does not need this proposed rule is Requests.

I agree with this.Hmmmmm, interesting thing…
Though, would this only apply to specific forums? Because the show and tell forums are mainly just people bumping.
Well, I support this.
