Backgrounds

I'm new to scratch and I'm struggling with changing my background. I have a game and you click the right arrow to move on which changes the background to the next one. I want to change the first background but I'm not sure how because only one background at a time shows up in the stage section. Plus, I can't delete this background, but I need to. Help!
P.S. Sorry if this doesnt make sense hopefully someone understands.

Try this:
when green flag clicked
switch backdrop to [backdrop1 v]




when [right arrow v] key pressed
next backdrop

Also, press the 'paint a new backdrop' button in the backdrop editing section to make new backdrops.

Thanks, but I still need help deleting one of my backgrounds. Is that a thing or should I just change the code block so it switches to a different background? Sorry, I'm still new to this

You can't delete backgrounds if you only have 1. Do you have multiple? If not, make the ones you need then delete the old one. You can also clear the background and start drawing on it for a blank slate.
