mh… What if the [ ]-parser would check over a post before it gets published for any [quote] tags and if it finds such a quote it sends a message to you and if it finds one more it doesn't because it memorized that it already send a message to you. It would be nice, but given the way the forum structure works, there wouldn't be a way to add it in, I'm afraid.
Would that work?

And besides, you could spam and do this:Yeah, it shouldn't send multiple messages about one post.Okay, that makes more sense. I support then. Make it only send 1 message, and only after the post is submitted.http://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/38426/ According to Cheddargirl, it can`t be done, unfortunately. It should be, because you can just have a script that will scan through your post searching for [quote= I suggested this already over here: an existing username] and then it will send a message to the username and with a link to the post.
And keep doing it.

I was just about to post this and you beat me to it. I support because it would make it easier to find out when somebody replies to your post without having to follow the topic and getting notifies all the time. However, there should be an option to turn it off.

Support! I hate it when I make a post in the forums and the next day, I have to search through it to see if my post has been quoted and posted a reply to it. However, with this I would know if it has been quoted and can just click the link in the message. Brilliant!

There's already the “Follow Discussion” button that does that. It always tells in your messages that there's a new post. Try it. I would like to be notified when someone quotes you`re forum post. After all, we do receive notifications when someone replies to our comments, and quoting forum posts are often used to reply. It would make it easier to continue the discussion so you don`t have to follow every topic you post something on or frequently check your posts.

Really? It would be nice, but given the way the forum structure works, there wouldn't be a way to add it in, I'm afraid.
Surely clicking the quote button could just activate a first function, that looks for the author of the post being quoted, then activates the regular quoting, but when submit is clicked it sends a message to the person.

Lots of people are pointing out how it would be abused, by just hitting the quote button constantly, but I think that this is only because they are actively seeking out ways of abusing this.
Also, 1 message per post.

What he said. It'd be tricky to implement without an easy way to abuse it, like spamming:
And jvvg would get notified a ton for this in Suggestions, he made the WNTS sticky.
But if this would work in the most possibly perfect way, I would support.

My “..” and “…” are not spelling mistakes, it means that they are ways of telling someone that I can continue more about it and that the sentence isn't ended the best way. I like putting new indents and lines so I can split up what I am talking about.
