I thought about that and, yeah, you're right. Scratch doesn't work on my PS4 at all.

how would projects that require keyboard input function? would it be like on mobile?

what is the mouse?

how can they make use of the controller?

it's possible, but why? the switch is a heavily restricted game console, so i'm sure even if scratch comes out and you can make games, you won't be able to play shared games.

most people have phones so why bother?

I've mentioned most of the development problems, but let's talk about the game now:

-How could you right-click (to add a comment)?

-Couldn't it be hard to try and drag a script without accidentally activating it? Without a mouse, that problem is practically endless.

I actually would, I actually daydreamed about Scratch on Nintendo Switch some months ago while I was on my Switch. Of course, I'd probably use it once, get frustrated with the controls and restrictions, then go back to my laptop. So, while it was a nice thought, it obviously wasn't going to come true.

And, even if there are millions of crazy people like me who would actually use it, I think it's safe to assume that, either way, this isn't going to be implemented, for all the reasons stated in page 1 and by you.

Technically, I don't think this would even be possible. The Switch isn't necessarily the most powerful console out there. I know from experience that lower-end devices tend have a lot of issues with Scratch, like the editor being laggy or projects being to “big” to be viewed. I can image that every time a project is to big to view, the app would just crash and give the “The software was closed because an error occurred” errors. The other idea that we just use Scratch on a web browser on the Switch also likely won't work. I first of all doubt the Switch will ever get a web browser,and if it did, we would likely run into the same problems as before, that is if the editor would even be able to load.
The other thing is that I believe all software on the Switch is made in Unity? I'm not completely sure if they can be made elsewhere, but if they can't, Scratch would probably have to be completely re-built.
For the controls, it may work for creating projects, but I doubt it would work for playing/viewing projects. Regardless, I can't imagine it being very intuitive… While games like Super Mario Maker 2 use drag-and-drop mechanics using the control sticks, it would likely be quite annoying. While I suppose you could also use the touchscreen when the Switch is undocked, the Switch's screen is kinda small…

Overall, I love the idea, but I don't think it would be technologically possible, nor would it be a fun experience. While I do own a Switch, I doubt I would use Scratch on it since it would be a slow and slightly annoying process doing anything. If even possible, I think it would be too much work for the devs with very little reward…

I support it I have a switch and it runs so much more than my iPad. It can be nonprofit still and I can make animations anywhere. I’d like that on my switch.

You wouldn't need to use controllers, because the nintendo switch has a great touchscreen. Also, there is a built in keyboard that appears every time you need to use one. There's also a web browser(that you can't access through normal means) and social media built in, and it runs pretty smooth, better than my tablet, but that would mean you can just use the web browser…

They'd still need to pay the developers.

All the switch would need to do is to just let people access the web browser (search up switch's hidden web browser).

Yes, but the internet has gotten worse since then, and Nintendo's target audience has gotten younger. Also, if you have a Switch then you or your parents most likely have some form of tablet or computer. I don't think this is a performance issue, as my Raspberry Pi runs Scratch 3 perfectly both online and offline.

Again, Scratch is nonprofit. Would they be able to pay the budget to make a Nintendo Switch Scratch?

That video is 4 years old. Any of the more recent ads that I've seen include < 10-year-olds. And, quite a few games have been released since then too. If we were having this conversation in 2017 maybe it would be possible, but not anymore.

Yes, but to get those games you would need a credit card, something not many kids have. It would be very difficult for a kid to get a game like that, but you can't charge someone to use a web browser; so the browser would have to be free or nonexistent. If it's free, a kid could easily access stuff worse then anything you can get on the switch, something Nintendo obviously doesn't want. And, Direct Minis aren't ads.
