There is, in fact, a difference. Being curated/featured is more about the project, but your idea is more user-centered.

Scratch would just follow an “everyone get's a turn for star of the week!” logic, like they do with a lot of featured projects.
If I was reading this when I first joined, I'd say that this is a great idea. But the ST has decided, “Hey! let's feature projects that had no effort put into them what so ever too!” so they would probably sometimes feature great scratchers, and others people who steal art/only do fill bucket remixes/have really bad projects.

on the scratch home page there should be a scratcher of the month award where “new” scratchers under the time period of 1 month get awarded by there progress and acheivments from there little bit of time on the scratch website. There are some scratchers that do some amazing work but never get noticed for it so why cant they not get that attention right now, if this possibly becomes official they will! (there may be multiple winners per month the maximum amount is five) the prize is a follow from a scratch team member. if you accept this this might be the look on some ones face!
the scratch team may add rules to this so people will not fight over the place as scratcher of the month[/quote

Hmm, I don't think that would work out. (Also please don't reply “YOU'RE A NEW SCRATCHER YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING” because I am not new, I have many other accounts and my oldest one has been around for about 3 months and has 60 followers). It seems that this will simply make scratchers feel like they are left out of less important if they can't get on or people don't follow them because they don't like their projects. It will cause arguments and the arguments over getting projects featured is already enough. Having scratcher of the month will simply cause a chaos because unlike the featuring system, this resolves around being scratcher of the month, meaning unlike the featuring system there can only be one scratcher of the month at a time, meanwhile featuring is more convenient because more than one project can be featured at a time. Overall this system will just make the community fall apart further with arguments insults and war over who is best scratcher of the month. I recommend that this doesn't happen, because I'm warning you now, if this gets carried out then it will be a mess.

That went out wrong it though the whole thing was being quoted

First of all scratch isn't about fame and what about the New Scratchers without as good skills. Also this would be better for ALL scratchers. The Scratch Team follows who they want not the ones they are forced to.

NO SUPPORT

This easily offends many scratchers

Hmm. I'm not sure what all the flaming is about here - I think we can have a calm and rational discussion without getting insulting.

I will say that this suggestion is not likely to happen though. We feel that we already are highlighting individual Scratchers when we chose their projects and studios and put them on the front page.

I feel I must address your post here - although it doesn't seem to have a lot of bearing on the subject at hand. It seems that you are being rather judgmental about other people's efforts. Remember that something that you may consider low-effort/easy may take quite a lot of effort for someone younger and/or with less experience than you. Scratch is a learning language - there are always going to be a lot of beginners on it. Please do not make them feel unwelcome because they don't meet your elevated standards.

After looking at the above arguments, I now fully do not support.

EDIT: Paddle2See ninjaed me. More fuel for “do not support”.

Simple. If the argue, they do not become Scratcher of the Month. If they think they're better, maybe they'll get reported and made non-Scratcher of the Month– or even more simple, Scratch Team picks a person who they think wouldn't do that. It'd be a great reward for quiet, hard-working, and kind Scratchers.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! :: list hat
We would have a lot of flame wars. :: variables
It will distract Scratchers from Scratch's purpose. :: sensing
It's not in the Scratch motto. :: operators
That's why we cannot do any achievements. :: sound
We already have such a status, known as the curator. :: control cap
