Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

For me, it's when my scripts and work don't save.
I can be super hyped to make a project I came up with, write some scripts, and come back to see it all gone.
I usually completely give up after that.

“What will others think of me?”
Applies not only to Scratch, but my real life, too.

true!
I used to be so carefree about what I made on Scratch. As time went by, I shared less and less of the projects I made.

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

I've got a few reasons as to why I stopped making Scratch projects, which became very evident when making my latest project:
- When taking on larger projects, planning things out and taking the time to get a framework of how you want your project programmed is a good idea.
- Large scripts are very unwieldy from my experience and make the interface laggy (one of my sprites had around 2600 blocks in it and several of them were well over 1000, so that made a lot of lag)
- Debugging isn't fun
- Trying to take on a massive project in a couple of weeks because “haha april fools” wasn't the greatest idea

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

Accidentally breaking or getting to a point where something gets broken and having to diagnose and then attempt to fix it
If I get to a point where I feel like I have to add more for the sake of adding more and not because I feel like it
Lack of interaction with or attention to projects I’m really excited or passionate for and when the stuff that isn’t as important gets more attention for some reason

coming up with an original, easy to make, and not too complex for my puny brain idea.

Either it gets too complicated and i'm not sure how to execute it, or just getting bored with the idea.

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

Getting bored. Most of my unfinished projects are a result of not having the motivation to continue on with them. I just get bored with making it for whatever reason.

I find that this especially happens for “large” games that I try to make — as if I make a lot of stuff and then think “Wow, I still have a long way to go.” Hence I try to limit the number of large games I'm making.

Writing a lot of code at once without testing it only to find out my hours of work doesn't function properly. That's why I frequently test to make sure certain things work and that what I have currently functions the way I want it to.

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

• being unable to use low level functions to have the project run the fastest (faster than 2.0 in no refresh)
• being restricted to doubles
• restriction of 30fps
• restriction of 480×360
• lack of all keys
• inability to manipulate files
• lack of plaintext output, come on not even newline hack works in 3.0
• the lag inducing HTML5 interface of drag and drop

In that case, it looks like you should learn a new coding interface, like <list of all of them>

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

I think was demotivates me the most is when I get a real big hiccup in a relatively minor area and I feel completely stumped and I think, “This is going to happen to something major and the project will never be completed and the headaches I will get will be painful ones AAAAA”

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

I have a lot of almost completed games that are not shared. Here's why:

*plays through it making sure there are no bugs*
“It's working great. There's nothing I need to fix. All I need to do is add some music and make the art look better but I've been working for a long time so I'll just take a break”
*goes and plays actually good games and comes back to my game an hour later*
“What is this? This is terrible! I am not a new scratcher anymore, the lack of quality here is inexcusable!”
*never finishes it*

I do sometimes share them, but most times I don't.

My problem is that I'll make lots of things which actually use a decent amount of coding (surprise, surprise I can code and not just make tutorials and art ) but then I won't share them because I'm very perfectionist with the looks of projects… I'll likely just never share it if I never manage to make the perfect thumbnail or background art. (And then I get annoyed and permanently delete it, which I tend to regret later.)

You do realise you can just click “undo” and select “undo delete sprite”…. (Though it only works until you leave the project)

Question: What demotivates you the most when making projects on Scratch?

For me it's when my well of ideas runs dry. I usually start off with a ton of ideas for a game but end up running out of ideas before the game is finished.

I have a game that I started back in 2018 that I haven't finished for that reason.
