Elaborated "Community Guidelines" or something regarding Advertisements, F4F, etc...

So with recent groups emerging regarding advertisements, it has come to my attention that the site's rules regarding advertising is not clear. While the studio and projects emerged from a group of famous Scratchers that were voicing their opinions regarding advertisements, it quickly turned into a dramatic flamewar on whether advertising is okay or not. I have seen multiple users that disagree with them saying how "advertising on profiles and projects is okay“, and how ”there's nothing wrong with advertising on the projects on Explore". I know that this isn't true… Scratch doesn't allow users to advertise in such places- that's why Show and Tell exists! While I understand that advertising wouldn't become a Community Guideline, as it is allowed in Show and Tell, I think that we need to make these kinds of things more clear. We need to have a page that touches on where you can and can't advertise, and can touch on other things, such as F4F, and how it is okay, but also how you need to understand that not all users do it, and you need to respect that. There are some things in the community that either are not clear, or are something that is extremely controversial. I think adding a place that can adress these things will significantly benefit the community.

To summarize, we need to make sure that things that are only allowed in certain places, like advertising and more “controversial” topics, such as that of F4F, are more clear. I suggest we need another page similar to that of the Community Guidelines that explains such things.
I think this would be highly beneficial to the site, as there are some things in the community that either are not clear, or are something that is extremely controversial. I think adding a place that can adress these things will significantly benefit the community.
I agree but what about advertising studios I am still unsure about that

avertizing is not mean. it is fine to me (removed by moderator - please keep it polite)
dude, it is mean
Advertising is not “mean” per se, but I will say that the way you worded it is kinda mean. Advertising is a way of getting more views on your projects. If ads were implemented (not just on show and tell) then your profile pages would be filled with advertisements. “Hey, check this out!” “Oh, you'll love this!” “LOOK AT MY MASTERPIECE!” “I love this project here, and you'll love it more!” “HEY HEY HEY I'M MAKING A GAME CHECK IT OUT!” etc. The only way to solve that would be to close comments on ALL your projects, studios, on you profile page, and ALL your forums.

That's why it's not allowed in certain places. Again, it's not “mean”, but it's not for everyone. Views should not be enforced. If you want to advertise, just do it at Show & Tell.

If you advertise on Explore or a famous scratchers page or project, its not ok. If you are specifically reaching out to some less well known scratchers, maybe.

I personally don't don't agree with people advertising in the projects of comments/profiles however the studio is fairly extra. It's just causing all of this drama and conflict for no reason whatsoever

It's when the adverts are posted in places that is not relevant to what they're advertising, then it's an issue. If the entire point of the studio is to advertise/add your projects then it's completely fine.

I think that the only places that advertising and follow for follow should be allowed is in advertising studios, f4f studios, and the show and tell forum.

My standpoint on advertising: Only should be allowed in places specially designed for it

My standpoint on f4f: I hate it.

This is swaying off topic more and more, so I'm going to close this.
Paddle2See and Za-Chary both said that they are planning on making a topic for in the “Announcements” forum to bring some clarity to these areas, so I'm also closing this as this suggestion is basically going to be implemented.

Coincidentally, we talked about this at the last moderator meeting - and we agree with you. While we aren't planning on expanding the Community Guidelines at this time (it's more for general principles), we are planning on making a forum post in Announcements to make sure there is clarity in these areas.

I just wanted to say that we've discussed this and are planning on making a forum post that precisely explains the Scratch Team's view on advertising and follow for follow. Hopefully it will help describe what is and is not okay regarding these areas
