ITopic - How do some Scratchers get certain roles on Scratch?

Obtaining the Scratcher status
Users can obtain the Scratcher rank by posting a lot of projects, comments, forum posts, and being active on Scratch for at least two weeks. You will receive a notification which contains a link that allows you to get promoted.

You will need to have the Scratcher status in order to do any of these below.

Become a Scratch Wiki Editor
Users can request a Scratch Wiki account here. Make sure to read everything and follow all the directions.

Becoming a Front Page Curator
Users can become a front page curator by submitting an application in this studio and you may get chosen as front page curator. However, please read all the directions before posting! If you do get chosen, you will receive a comment on one of your projects or on your profile asking you to become front page curator.

Becoming a SDS Curator
User can become a SDS curator by being active and dedicated on Scratch for several months and answering to a lot of comments in the SDS studio. If you all of these, you make get chosen.

Become a Scratch Mentor
It is unknown on how you become a Scratch Mentor, however if you do get chosen, you will receive a comment on one of your projects or on your profile asking you to become a Mentor.

Becoming a Member of the Scratch Team
You must be 18 years or older (as being a Scratch Team member is a paid-job). By being a member of the Scratch Team you are responsible for providing information about updates, completing tasks issued by a project manager, performing routine maintenance on the Scratch servers, as well as improving the Scratch website and program.

Joining the Scratch Team as a moderater
You must be 18 years or older and be chosen to be a moderator. Being a moderator is a paid job.

You must be 18 years or older and attend MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. By being a member of the Scratch Team you are responsible for providing information about updates, completing tasks issued by a project manager, performing routine maintenance on the Scratch servers, as well as improving the Scratch website and program.

I'm pretty sure that some members of the ST like Paddle2See moderate and aren't at MIT.

I thought there wasn't really a “moderator” status anymore and I thought the minimum age was 14

Nope, ST is the same thing which makes it a paying job and making the age limit 18.

I noticed that all of the Welcoming Committee curators became Scratch Mentors after they became curators - being a Mentor could have some connection with the Welcoming Committee

Actually the age limit was dropped to 13, and then the status was removed.
