since scratch has a “eye-roll” emoji, why not add a dab emoji?

I know that I personally wouldn't want it, but I don't really have much of a strong opinion on this nor do I think it's very beneficial. It's pretty much a dead meme at this point so I'm not a fan of it.

Why add a dab emoji if, according to Goggle, lots of people consider it dead?

It also has no use, whereas all of the other emojis convey thoughts or emotions.

What kind of connection do you get from “eyeroll” to “dab?”
As well as that, are you talking about forum emojis or comment emojis?

as part of the anti dead memes department, I'm gonna have to give this a big fat NO SUPPORT!

1- Dab is a dead meme
2- The Scratch Forum emojis are used to express emotions, what emotion is expressed through a dab that is not or or or well, you get the point.
3- What do and dab have in common? I don't understand you're comparison (other than the fact that after a dab emoji is used, a will be too.)

Due to this, no support.

no support, what's the point. if you want to indicate dabbing you could just say
wooo! I beat the game in only 48 seconds! *dab*
or something like that

I don't care if dabbing is a “dead meme” or not, but a dabbing emoji would pretty much mean the same thing as this:

I can see that all of you are opposed to this, but the reasons you have given have also presented some questions:

1. just what defines a “dead meme”?

2. is it logical to say that the opinions of “lots” of people defines what everyone thinks?

3. how does one decide if an emoji conveys a thought and/or emotions?

1. A dead meme is a meme that is dead. This can be seen when looking at the Google Trends graph for dab.

This graph shows interest for dabbing. The two peaks are at at the weeks of Feb 7, 2016; and Jan 1, 2017. These dates are well over three, four years ago. Today, the Interest is at 16, meaning it is 16% of what it was at Jan 1, 2017. It is safe to say that dabbing is dead.

2. Yes, it is. The film Cats has a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 294 critics, and a 32 on Metacritic based on 51 critics. That's quite a lot of people to say that this movie is bad, but if you have a 2.8 on IMDb with over 27000 reviews, it's safe to say that most of everyone thinks that it's garbage. And while there are often exceptions, a smaller sample size is a fragment of a larger one; a large sample size is not an inflation of a small one.

3. This question is trickier to answer as it requires subjective thoughts, so you'll be mine, chdargos. What emotions are these trying to portray?

Even if you can't figure it out, they sure are portraying something. Now, what about a dab? What expression does that show? I personally can't think of any, but you're free to decide.

that isn't a good definition. how could someone figure out if a meme is dead with this?

notice how i put “lots” in quotation marks.

despite the dab being a so-called “dead meme”, i dab almost all the time.

A dead meme is a meme that was once really popular but now is used seldom and is looked upon as “cringey.” (Cringey meaning that it makes someone cringe or makes them feel uncomfortable).

Usually when someone dabs they think, “oh I'm so cool!” Which would be this:

A meme: a cultural item in the form of an image, video, phrase, etc., that is spread via the Internet and often altered in a creative or humorous way.
that is dead: no longer current or prevalent, as in effect, significance, or practice; obsolete

What is that supposed to mean? If you're trying to be sarcastic and by “lots” you mean “small number of people,” my argument still checks out and in fact more validated.

not true. your argument has a flaw in it:

fdreerf wrote:

the number of people on earth is 7,771,123,266 people, as of 6:14:00 on 3/15/2020. the total U.S population as of the same time is about 329,398,409 people.

let's do some math.
For the Rotten Tomatoes score, there were 294 critics. that is about…

3.7832368621188E-6% of the world population, and
8.925361870828E-5% of the U.S population.

For the Metacritic score, there were 51 critics. that computes to…

6.5627578220428E-7% of the would population, and
1.5482770592253E-5% of the U.S population.

does this look like the opinions of everyone who has seen the movie?
I think not.

Haha, I think you misunderstood. I showed three scores for the same movie from different sources. Two of them are small, under 300 reviews. The third has well over 20,000, and both and the same consensus that Cats was not a good film. As well as that, there is no point of having the entire populations of the U.S. and the world, because not everyone saw it.

true, but millions could have seen the movie. and the flaw in your argument is still a flaw, no matter how you see it.
