Connection issue with Lego WeDo 2.0 (and how to solve it)

Hi! I teach programming and robotics in an afterschool club and I have been working with Scratch 3.0 and Lego WeDo 2.0 since october. I have four computers, all running Windows 10, LE Bluetooth, Scratch link installed and everything worked fine.

Until two days ago.

On Tuesday 22nd all computers refused to connect to WeDo hubs. At the same time. So I thought it would be a Scratch issue (we work with the online editor) and taught my lesson without Lego WeDo. We had fun anyway .

Yesterday, fingers crossed, I tried the same but it did not work.

So this morning I took several steps to figure out what was happening.

I tried the offline editor, without success, therefore the problem was not there.
I paired the BT device again, it did not work, either.
Next, I reinstalled Scratch link. The first time I executed it, the computer prompt a message about the firewall blocking the program. I let Scratch link to connect to private networks and… it worked!

So I guess something changed the firewall settings for Scratch link. Maybe this post will be usefull in the future. If so, just let me know. It encourages me to keep posting!

Thanks a lot!

I had the same problem with my micro:bit just before the start of a workshop and I think it was caused by a Windows Update. I tried installing ScratchLink again, but it didn't work at that moment. After reading your post, I tried it again. I removed the old version of ScratchLink, downloaded the latest version and then installed it. And now the micro:bit does connect again!

Yes, I am very happy with that, because I really enjoy using Scratch 3.0 with the micro:bit and with Lego WeDo.

Glad to help! Yes, I also think the latest Windows update made the mess, yesterday I checked the date and it matched the day all my computers refused to work.

How can you set Scratch link to connect to private networks in macbook pro? Can you explain it in detail? Thank you!

Connection issue with Lego WeDo 2.0 (and how to solve it)

Hello!
THank you for share experience!
I have not same, but close issue: I want to use two SmartHubs (Lego WeDo 2.0) in one scratch project.
But scratch allows connect only one Hub to the project installed on one car model…
Then I opened 2nd project, connected 2nd Hub, but it's impossible to use Hubs - only operates Hub with scratch in active window…

Do you know how to connect two SmartHubs in same scratch project?

Thank you for help!

As far as I know only one hub can be connected. Scratch link is different from the app for Android, which allows connecting up to 3 hubs.

Hi what do you mean by letting scratch link connect to a private network? I installed the scratch link but I am not able to connect it to the lego WeDo 2.0

When you reinstall Scratch link you are asked if you give it permission to connect to the private network. If you do not grant access, the firewall will prevent it to connect and Scratch link will not work.

Have you ever connected that computer to the Lego WeDo? Are you sure you have Bluetooth 4.0? Have you checked if you have the latest versión of Win10?

Hi, have similar problem. Hub connecting to WeDo 2.0, but not to scratch.

Connection issue with Lego WeDo 2.0 (and how to solve it)

I cannot get the WeDo 2.0 device to pair with Scratch at all. I add the extension for “LEGO Education WeDo 2.0. I get the screen in Scratch where it says ”Have your device nearby, then begin searching“. When I click on ”Start Searching“, it immediately says ”Try Again“ along with (1) ”Make sure you have Scratch Link installed and running“, and (2) ”Check that Bluetooth is enabled."

Scratch Link is installed and running, and Bluetooth is enabled. This is running on Windows 10.

I have tried Scratch desktop instead of the online version. I have tried redownloading Scratch Link. Nothing makes any difference.

The product works with the WeDo app, so it seems that all the hardware is in order (both for the WeDo device and the computer).

This is all very frustrating. It seems like this integration just does not work. What am I missing if anything?

Are you sure that scratch link has permission to connect to private networks? In my case, the problem was there with the firewall.

I too just started having this issue. We are right in the middle of our robotic project with 5th graders. We are working in a mac lab running 10.14 Mojave. Everything has worked perfectly for years. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ScratchLink (version 1.3.67). Checked bluetooth and wifi. Restarted machine. Help is much appreciated.

Connection issue with Lego WeDo 2.0 (and how to solve it)

I am also running a robotics club and was hoping to do Lego WeDo kits in a week or so. Have been using it to test projects the past few weeks. Tonight it doesn't work. Tried reinstalling Scratch Link 1.3.67. Restarted MacOS (Big Sur 11.6). Turned BT off and back on. Tried different networks.

Only thing I've installed since then besides a Chrome browser update is Google Drive for Mac. Tried pausing the sync and still doesn't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
