Hey Scratchers! As some of you may have noticed, I was gone for awhile- but I'm back now, so that's all that matters, right? So anyway, lately I've heard a lot of quotes that I find really inspiring and I thought it would be nice to have a place where Scratchers could share their favorites, what they mean, how they found them, and why they like them!
I'll go first.
“There is no great loss without some small gain.” -Caroline Ingalls, Little House on the Prairie.
I found this quote repeatedly in the Little House on the Prairie series and I just love it. It comes true again and again- it basically means that no matter how horrible something is, however much loss and destruction and death happens, something good will always come out of it in the end, and that's what we should look for. I would consider myself an optimist, and this quote basically describes optimism. (If that's a word…? XD)
I also love quotes like “Without pain, how could we know joy?” (found in The Fault in Our Stars) although the book makes fun of it. It's similar to the saying “Stars can't shine without darkness.” It means that without bad things, we wouldn't know what good things are because everything would be good. There would be no way to distinguish happiness, so we wouldn't be happy.
What are your thoughts? What quotes do you like?

You didn't say it had to be a good quote.

“Be a loner. That gives you time to wonder, to search for the truth. Have holy curiosity. Make your life worth living.” - Albert Einstein
“I have been a fool. Made mistakes. Monumental ones. I now realize I was never destined to a leader, or even an equal partner, and… I am at peace with that. I have gained a clear understanding of my place in this universe… of who I am… of who I was always meant to be; Starscream: second in command. Humble servant to Lord Megatron.”
- Starscream, Transformers Prime (quote clarification from wiki)
“You're kidding me. Did you just stuff that Aperture Science thing-we-don't-know-what-it-does into an Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator? That has got to be the dumbest thing that … whoa. Whoa, whoa … *Cackles, voice changes* Good news: I figured out what that thing you just incinerated did. It was a morality core they installed after I flooded the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin, to make me stop flooding the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin. So get comfortable while I warm up the neurotoxin emitters.”

“Oh, thank God you're all right. You know, being Caroline taught me a valuable lesson. I thought you were my greatest enemy, but all along you were my best friend. The surge of emotion that shot through me when I saved your life taught me an even more valuable lesson: where Caroline lives in my brain. *Announcer: ”Caroline deleted.“* Goodbye, Caroline. You know, deleting Caroline just now taught me a valuable lesson. The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one. And I'll be honest - killing you is hard. You know what my days used to be like? I just tested. Nobody murdered me, or put me in a potato, or fed me to birds. I had a pretty good life. And then you showed up. You dangerous, mute lunatic. So you know what? You win. Just go. *chuckles* It's been fun. Don't come back.”

[W]hen people thought the earth was flat, they were wrong. When people thought the earth was spherical, they were wrong. But if you think that thinking the earth is spherical is just as wrong as thinking the earth is flat, then your view is wronger than both of them put together.
The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.
A ship in a harbor is safe – but that is not what ships are built for.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
Programming is an art form that fights back
Not sure I agree with that one The history of the human race is a continual struggle from darkness toward light. It is therefore to no purpose to discuss the use of knowledge. Man wants to know, and when he ceases to do so, he is no longer man

That was Socrates, I believe. Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire
My quote is,
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air
In West Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said ‘You’re movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'
I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought ‘Nah, forget it’ - ‘Yo, homes to Bel Air’
I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie ‘Yo homes smell ya later’
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air
