The Week at Furby's Development Log

Hello there, Scratchers! I am making a new project called the Week at Furby's, or TWAF for short. It is a sequal to my most successful project ever, Four Nights at Furby's, which got over 170 views! The Week at Furby's, like it's predecessor FN@F, is a point-and-click survival horror game inspired by, but not a rip-off of, FNAF (Five Nights at Freddy's)! This discussion is a recap of the various updates and patches that the game receives! Check back often for updates, as I don't do these on a schedule!

Well, it's been a while, might as well update it!
The Game is out now! Come and play it on Scratch!

The game has went through a series of changes since my latest hiatus, and I'm quite proud of the results! I'll talk about the individual characters throughout the next week or so.

NEW Character Approaching!!!
The new character is:

Dark Furby!

He will start in the Kitchen (Camera 6B), goes through the Concessions, Main Area, Bathrooms, and into your office! Reset the Ventilation to ward him off!
He is completely dark, and stands out well in the light! If you spot him getting close to you, reset the AC and you can reset his location!

The Week at Furby's Development Log

New updates have occurred to the game since Alpha ended, might as well recap them now!

The Drive-thru Update
A New camera has been added (C8), and it is, appropriately for a fast food restaurant, a Drive-thru! While nobody specifically goes through this camera, as it is outside, Golden Furby resides here when he's not in the hole behind you! Pink and Dark Furbies can be seen in parts of this camera if they are close to you!

The Silver Lining Update
This update mainly added in the Silver Furby. He appears in the cameras in the form of a popup, and you must cancel it to prevent him from getting you! This update also changed the AI for Endless mode, adding Pink into Endless mode, and changed some things for the general gameplay of the game!

NEW CHARACTER APPROACHING!!!

Pink
She will start in the Arcade room, go through the Main Hall and Vent #1, and will stop at the Kitchen, banging the pots and pans constantly to lower your patience. Resetting the AC also resets her at any given time, so use it if she's becoming a nuisance!

NEW CHARACTER APPROACHING!!!

Black (Furblack)

Furblack is a ravaged, broken-up character that starts in Parts & Services, goes through the Main Hall, the Concessions, and the Kitchen, before ending up in the office. He functions more or less like the normal characters, but is a bit more animated, thanks to his appearances being on separate sprites. I obviously inspired his appearance off of Mangle in FNAF2.

The Week at Furby's Development Log

Challenges have officially been added to The Week at Furby's! These are simple nights where certain characters are active depending on the challenge selected. There are 6 challenges in the game so far:

The Classix
This challenge contains the 6 characters returning from the previous game: Furble, Verdo, Amarillo, Azulo, Aranjo, and Goldeno.

New & Shiny
This challenge contains the (so far) 5 new characters appearing in The Week at Furby's. These include: Barrow, Rosa, Dark Furby, Furblack, and Argen.

Bright & Bold
This challenge contains characters that are bright in color.

Dark & Daft
This challenge is the opposite of Bright & Bold, featuring Darkly-coloured characters.

Strange but True
This challenge features the characters that don't follow the typical movement patterns of a standard character, i.e. they don't utilize the lamp in some way.

Standard Edition
This challenge features characters that do follow traditional movement patterns, i.e. they utilize the lamp in some way.

The Week at Furby's Development Log

I've decided to make it so you only have to mouse over the camera and turnaround buttons instead of simply clicking on them. I did this because clicking on things like those buttons is slow and feels kind of clunky. This is also a fast-paced FNAF-inspired game, so having slow and clunky mechanics just doesn't fit well in my opinion.

Golden Furby, or Goldeno, was implemented because I didn't want the player to just sit around with the lamp off all the time, and I wanted to freshen up the gameplay a little by adding him in.

I originally wanted Argen (Or Silver Furby) to inhabit the hole in the office's wall alongside Goldeno, but I decided to implement him as a popup instead because I wanted every character to be somewhat unique.

Rosa only appears as pinkened walls at the moment because I was too lazy to draw her. I might draw her in the future, though.

I want every camera to have a use, and the Drive through doesn't have much use outside of seeing when Golden Furby is active or when you are low on R-coins. I think adding in a character that exclusively appears in the Drive through using a unique mechanic would both spice up the gameplay, and balance out the “Strange” and “Standard” characters. Maybe a maroon furby?

I can and I will add more challenges to the game eventually. Maybe there could be a challenge based around the Yellow and Red-based Furbies, maybe one based around the rainbow, maybe even one based around characters that are not traditional colors (Example: Golden, Silver, Dark, etc.), maybe even just a challenge featuring all characters at max difficulty, as in Endless.

Oh, and Endless mode features all the characters at roughly max difficulty.

Some furbies, like Argen or Goldeno, only have 5 levels of difficulty, while most others have 10.

I have had a Custom mode in the past, but I have found little use for it in the vein of challenge mode and what it offers. Maybe someday, but not in the near future.

Oh, and for some reason, Rosa (The Pink one) is the only female furby. I guess I forgot to implement furby genders, but I don't think implementing genders into robotic fictional animals is a big priority. Also, it just seemed to make sense.

If I could add any other furbies, maybe a template furby that is literally just a mannequin, maybe a white furby to contrast the black furby, a grey one to compliment them both, a Cyan furby, an Outlined furby, and even a striped furby are some of my options.

The Week at Furby's Development Log

I am considering adding the final character to the Week at Furby's. he will be in the Drive Through, and he will demand for a Burger. If you don't get him a burger through the cameras, he will drive his car through the hole in your office behind you. It would be similar in gameplay to Argen, but he would only be served through the Drive Thru. I think a Maroon Furby would fit the game perfectly, and give the game some well-needed red characters. There is a Red furby in the Parts & Service room, but he only becomes active if the Patience is really high.

The Week at Furby's Development Log

I've updated the map on the cameras to better show what the place actually looks like. I've also added “doors” to the camera map to make the connections between places more obvious. For example, the hallway in front of your office is also connected to the Kitchen, the Arcade room, and the Bathroom hallway, and the new camera map emphasizes this, showing you how the furbies get to your office. I still don't know what to do with the vents, but I think just leaving them how they are currently seems to work. I don't really want to add in any more cameras to the game, and I think the cameras are good enough as they are, what with all of them, except for the Drive through, being used by two or more Furbies.

R-coins will only appear in 3 cameras: the Main Area, the Arcade room, and the Drive through. The Drive through is the one where the most amount of R-coins can be found if lucky enough. You can use R-coins in offers at the Concessions and to ward off Barrow (The brown one). Offers at the concessions will occasionally appear if certain criteria are met, such as when a furby in particular is quite far along his route, or if your patience is low.

I'm considering moving over to Snap! to work on future furby-related dwellings. I just don't know if Scratch is really something that the series would belong in. Maybe renaming the furbies to “Funowls” or something similar would be more desirable. Snap! just has more features that would be more desirable for projects as complicated as the Furby series.

The Week at Furby's Development Log

Don't worry about the Week at Furby's. I will get it finished, but I will move on to Snap! after the game is officially done. I have to move on from certain things and will continue to move on until I have reached my goals. Until I have finished the Week at Furby's, I will continue to improve and adapt.
