So, let's make a legit theory: did you know the movie is apparently in progress? From what I heard, Scott said it was most likely to come out by 2021. They're using actual animatronics too, it seems. Like, real, working animatronics, based off the one in the game. Apparently, the director, Chris Columbus, who also directed the first two Harry Potter movies, decided to design them like how the game animatronics were made, instead of designing them like real animatronics like the last director did. Although it's clear the movie is neither Scott's nor Blumhouse's top priority. So it's not set when, but we will get a movie.

And seriously, can you imagine an actual FNaF movie?

Actually, I think it might elaborate more on the Aftons, though Scott did say that it was only gonna be canon till the third game. Not sure what he meant, seeing as the games are not in chronological order, but I think, since 4, SL and Pizzaria Simulator are the ones most argued over, that's his way of saying, “I can do whatever I want. You'll still be confused.”

They are, actually. There are videos that show all the teasers. It's definitely gonna come out someday. Maybe not soon but it's going to come out. The director answered a bunch of questions about the movie, I believe.

It’s Bloomhouse and Chris Columbus, not Netflix and Scorsese, trust me, this isn’t gonna have much. It’s gonna be a kinda cheap, dangerously close to 2000’s horror movie.

Plus, up until the VR game, FNaF was never about high budget.

I actually think FNaF's storytelling would translate best to low budget than high budget. The thing with high-budget is that a lot of times that leads to the film falling into generic horror-blockbuster/rotten-tomatoes-bombed territory.

Blumhouse actually has had a fantastic track record overall. Sure, they've had a couple missteps, but they've also been involved in stuff like Split, Get Out, Us, Upgrade, The Purge, and a lot more (haven't seen most of these but they get critical acclaim). And I mean, it's the director of Night at the Museum, a movie that's about a security guard watching exhibits/attractions come to life at night! It's perfect.

Honestly, I wish FNaF lore would stop being about tying up loose ends, and focus more on other ways to tell lore.

FNaF's lore creeped everyone out because of how fresh and original it was. The idea of a child murderer stuffing dead children into animatronic suits and inadvertently bringing the animatronics to life was freaking terrifying at the time. But now it's mostly just about “hey, here's the reason you saw 7 animatronics in that minigame instead of 6!”

I feel like FNaF would do well if they took a more Don't Hug Me I'm Scared-style approach to lore, and they made things a bit more interpretive. I'm not sure if Scott is quite as good at storytelling in that area, but I think it'd be worth a try.

Or if he and his bonus writers actually only introduced mostly new concepts instead of trying to tie up loose ends. FNaF 1's ghost-story-style lore was chilling. I actually think Scott Cawthon is still a fantastic storyteller to this day, with all the tapes in FNaF VR and the anthology books. I just wish the story he's trying to tell wasn't such a mess. It worked with the first few FNaF games but now it's definitely getting old.
