So there somehow hasn't been a Castlevania thread yet.

Castlevania is a series of action platformers by Konami. You play as one of many characters, typically from the Belmont family, on a quest to kill Dracula. Along the way, you'll encounter skeletons, Medusa heads, Frankenstein, the Grim Reaper, and all sorts of classical horror demons. (Along with a few too many bats.)
Here's a list of games in the series.

  • Castlevania (1986, NES/MSX/FDS)
  • Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest (1987, NES/FDS)
  • Haunted Castle (1988, Arcade)
  • Castlevania: The Adventure (1989, GB)
  • Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse (1989, NES)
  • Kid Dracula (1990, NES/GB)
  • Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge (1991, GB)
  • Super Castlevania 4 (1991, SNES)
  • Castlevania Chronicles (1993, X68K/PSX)
  • Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (1993, TG16/PSP)
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines (1994, Genesis)
  • Castlevania: Dracula X (1995, SNES)

  • Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (2010, X360/PS3)
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2010, X360/PS3)
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow ~ Mirror of Fate (2013, 3DS)
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014, X360/PS3)
  • Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls (being test-released in Canada as we speak (go pirate the game like I did), Android)

It also has a successful Netflix show based after it, at least one novel, and Simon and Richter got in Smash Ultimate.

I played the GBAs and Symphony.

Circle of the Moon is a hard one. (But there is actually a glitch in this game where you can use DSS cards you didn't unlock.)
Harmony of Dissonance, I don't know.
Aria of Sorrow, yeah! I experienced getting all the souls just for one unlockable item.
Symphony of the Night was also my favorite really, its just that its a bit slow to play it on my emulator.

And yeah! since I mostly played the Metroidvania ones. I can remember that they mostly DASH.

So was Hollow Knight

I tried the Sharp X68000 port of the first game, it's worth a look.

If you're sadistic, Order of Ecclesia. If you're basic, Symphony of the Night. If you're also sadistic, Dracula X.

I'd like to suggest an update to the topic if there ever is one:

Castlevania 3 also came out on the FDS in 1989, and It was called Akumajō Densetsu. The nes version came later in 1990

Also, if I'm not mistaken, Castlevania Chronicles for PSX came out a few months before the PS2's release, and was a remake of the one for the X86.
