How to Import a picture in scratch

How do I import a picture in scratch?

I am using the online version of scratch and not the downloaded Windows version. In the Costume Scratch editor, I see the ‘PAste’ option greyed out when i try to copy paste an image.

Thanks for your help!

to import a picture you need to right-click the image, press “save image as”, and save it somewhere onto your computer. then, go to the costumes section of your sprite, hover over the blue thing at the bottom, and click the square with an arrow coming out of it. finally, find your file, click it, click open and it will come in as a new costume! you can then use it like a regular costume. hope that helps!

To add onto this, all images imported into scratch will be converted into bitmap (unless you upload a .svg file or similar type files which will import in vector). Bitmap images have a maximum resolution of 480x360 pixels (size of the bitmap canvas). To circumvent this, 3rd party tools such as Turbowarp allow you to “HD upload” meaning the image will be uploaded at maximum resolution in vector (with the same effect as switching a bitmap image to vector, you can't manipulate the image besides rotation and scaling). Of course, Scratch has a rendering limit of 480x360 pixels, so unless you increase the size of the image's sprite (which also reduces resolution), it won't make a difference. Inside the editor, however, HD uploads can be helpful for tracing and such.
