'sage' function (sage=don't bump)

There are some times where i don't want to bump a topic, So I would like a sage function (name from 5ch) if your post has “sage” written in it, then the topic doesn't bump, if there's no “sage” in your post the topic bumps

This could definitely be useful for guide-makers who need to split their guides across multiple posts or edit them frequently. However, I don't think it should rely on the presence of a keyword within the post - that could end up being prone to false positives and result in topics not being bumped when they should be (for example if you happened to talk about sages, or, more realistically, were quoting a user with the word “sage” in their username).

Instead, I feel like a better option would be some sort of checkbox labeled “don't bump this post”, or something similar, located near the “submit” button; that would remove the (albeit small) possibility of someone's post failing to bump properly because they happened to mention the keyword in an unrelated context. It would also be much easier to understand for new forum users.

Yeah I was thinking about how that could happen, I just didn't think of a checkbox for some reason, so I just went with the sage keyword instead. Your checkbox idea is good.

Interesting idea, maybe instead just be able to share a forum topic, but you can make multiple posts on it before you share it?

This could also be useful for being a sandbox for testing forum formatting and Scratchblocks. It's possible that someone who is really bored could queue up pages and pages of posts before sharing it and spamming the forums, but I'm not sure if that's a big issue

You'd only be able to do one topic at a time, and besides, if someone did that they would probably get an alert and that topic would be deleted.

Couldn't this be used for “private chat” (in such a way where it's harder to catch people using a topic for off-topic stuff because it's not being bumped for public view)?

Not really, as the people in the chat would have to scroll ALL THE WAY to here, and it's in public.

But it's kind of hidden if people have to scroll all the way there since the topic didn't get bumped.

Your projects don't get bumped when you comment.

I mean, it is possible to use projects for private chat, because projects don't get bumped when you comment. Same goes for forums.

True, I don't think this is a big issue, people can still post their email and other sovial media connections on scratch, which would be much easier way to message privately.

Yeah, but providing another medium to do so? I'm somewhat worried that this could quickly derail conversations even though it doesn't bring the topic up for attention.

What does it mean to “bump” a topic? No support, since that would be confusing to literally everyone.

Bumping a topic is when you post something (usually just “bump”) to move your post back to the top of the forums page. It's pretty common, and it wouldn't be that confusing to most people.
