What about Lego Boost

I saw on the hardware compatibility list that Lego Boost was not listed although it uses a bluetooth smarthub like on Lego WeDo.
Is a Boost support planned in a near future ?

Hi everyone,

I've used this free helper app S2Bot to connect Lego Boost to Scratch and it's fun. I posted a video on YouTube showing some photos, film clips and Scratch code for the Lego Boost robot called Vernie:

The move hub of Lego Boost has two motors inside and you can code how many steps (turns) the motor has to make or the position the motor axis has to go to, usings Scratch. There is a thirth motor with the same features that can be connected to the hub with a small cable. Being able to programm steps is cool, but there seems to be no way to just turn the motor on and off, which made steering Vernie using the Arrow keys difficult.

Furthermore, there is a separate colour sensor, which can return numbers from 1 to 10 to Scratch, depending on which colour it “sees”.

The move hub also has a tilt sensor inside and this one returns more values than the tilt sensors of Lego WeDo. Therefore, you can also use it as a controler for a Scratch game, like you can see in this video (not by me):

Please be aware a 3.BLED112 bluetooth dongle (not required for Chromebooks) is needed to use the S2Bot. No other type of dongle is compatible.

when will s2bot support scratch 3.0? i have a Lego boost and was so excited to try it out with scratch and s2bot only to find scratch 2.0 is no longer available for chromebooks!

May I ask what you mean? Scratch Link is easy to download when you want to connect Lego Boost to Scratch 3.0. However, if you don't have Bluetooth 4, that's not so easy to solve.

Hi Arno,

are you talking about Scratch 3.0? If so, you can easily add the Lego Boost extension by clicking the blue box with the + sign, which you can find underneath the coding blocks.

Furthermore, you need to install Scratch Link and you need to have bluetooth 4.

I have Windows 10 Pro, Scratch Link and bluetooth 4, on one computer bluetooth is CSR chip and the other has the Broadcom chip. The only thing I can affect on Boost is the color of the diode. I cannot control motors nor can I read distance. So far big yawn. I expect that there are many bugs which will be fixed soon?

So the folks at PicAxe win again. How is it that Revolution Education does such fabulous programming and yet has not been approached to help Lego out? I mean Wedo 2, Powerup, Boost etc - all a big mess with no product able to communicate with the other and programs acting stupid on Windows… Lego needs programmers and MIT could use some help too. Not harsh, just straight up.

Hey wolscratch, we've been having some issues with the LEGO BOOST extension ever since the Move Hub got new firmware. Most of the issues have been fixed at this point, but we're hoping to have the last ones squashed by next week!
