After a few days of on and off development followed by perpetual updates, it's here!
HAL is being stubborn and not making a Kirby RPG, so I had to take (dark) matters into my own hands.
To tide over Kirby fans worldwide, I've decided to present my concept for a Kirby RPG! Though it seems very simple on the surface… well, actually, it's extremely simple, but simple doesn't always mean bad!
Now, as for the game itself, how does it work?
Battles consist of two turns: Kirby's turn, and the enemy's turn. On Kirby's turn you can select one of four options:
(ATTACK) - Walk up to the enemy and use your ability on them. Press Space when Kirby or his weapon gleams red to chain together a combo.
(SUPER) - Rack up 6 SP by getting perfect attack combos of 5 to unleash your ability's Super Attack!
(ITEM) - Coming soon. Heal yourself up, change your ability, unleash your Super Attack instantly, and more!
(RUN) - Sometimes an enemy's just too much. Get out of there by selecting this option and mashing the Space Bar!
On the enemy's turn, the enemy will attack Kirby. Press space to jump up and dodge their attacks!
This game is a work in progress, and, as the name implies, is only battles. I hope you enjoy this game!

November 14, 2019: Added functionality to Super option
November 19, 2019: Made the timing for combos a bit more lenient since I noticed it was a bit too hard
November 19, 2019: Added basic projectile attack
November 20, 2019: Made Run button functional
November 22, 2019: Changed amount of hits in a Perfect Combo to 3 instead of 5, lowered enemy HP to 30 instead of 40; both were done to reduce difficulty
November 23, 2019: Noticed that sword sound makes it harder to do a combo, figured out why this is, so I made the timing more lenient for doing it too early since the sword sound suggests that the timing is slightly earlier than it actually is
November 24, 2019: Made it so that you can no longer spam space to attack, which got brokedy by the improved combo system
November 25, 2019: Turned the first round into a quick tutorial on how battles work so that players don't have to read the text wall of instructions to play the game properly
November 26, 2019: Caused the screen to dim and freeze when a tutorial happens
January 5, 2020: Exactly a month since last update, finally added the gosh darn music; it's not the best, but it's finally here. Also fixed the death animation
January 13, 2020: Noticed that running was broken, fixed it and added a space bar indicator
January 14, 2020: Added fading in and out, doesn't look quite as retro anymore but it looks nice; also revamped the victory screen
April 7, 2020: Made the Wheelie animation a bit slower with less frames, which made it easier to import into Game Maker, as well as reducing its HP to 27 so that getting 6 Perfect Combos and unleashing your Super Attack kills it; this is probably going to be the last update this demo of the game gets

24 November 2019: Made it so that you can no longer spam space to attack, which got brokedy by the improved combo system
Also, @NotAJumbleOfNumbers, the Mario and Luigi series was my primary source of inspiration, but they both got their combat system from Mario RPG, so I guess it's the same thing.

5 January 2020: Exactly a month since last update, finally added the gosh darn music; it's not the best, but it's finally here. Also fixed the death animation

6 August 2020: After almost exactly 4 months, the Game Maker battle demo is out! You can find the Reddit post I made about it here, or you can just download it directly here. (UPDATE: neither link still works)
This version doesn't have the tutorials, so you have to know how to play. The only control difference here is the timing for a combo, so if you can play the original, you're good to go.

Mind if I engage in a little necroposting?
I made a battle with King Dedede using the CoDL battle engine! It's more advanced than the original demo battle, and the difficulty is a bit spicier, so be aware of that. Hope you enjoy!
