I've tried to do it but no matter how hard, it never works. My paint brush ever turns into a square when I zoom in. Can someone help please?

I reccomend using piskelapp or pixilart, then importing it into scratch.

Otherwise, paintbrush size 4.

Paintbrush size 4 on bitmap, using squares on vector (don't do that unless you have a lot of patience, accuracy, and sanity) or find some sort of online website to draw it with. I usually opt for option number one, as I can see what it looks like with the rest of the scenery, but you do you.

I highly recommend you do not try to do pixel art in the Scratch editor. Instead, you should try using a program that was made specifically for pixel art. Piskel, Slate, Aseprite, Cosmigo ProMotion are some of those, as you can get pixel perfect editing using that software, as well as animations and layers. Onion skinning on some of them, too. If you want to try it in the Scratch editor, then make sure you set the brush size to 1 pixel.

Personally, I use mostly pixel art in my games (outside of Scratch, and now one inside of Scratch), and what I do is create the art in the Piskel desktop version and export it, then load it into the project.
