IT would be cool if you could control Lego mindstorms with scratch.

Well, there's the Enchanting mod based on Scratch 1.4, or you could use Snap! (http://snap.berkeley.edu), and my Snap-NXT extension (Github link).

@technoboy10: Snap-NXT looks great! I used Enchanting before, but didn't like having to flash the NXT with Lejos. Does your Snap-NXT extension require any updates to the brick or does it work out of the box as long as the script is running? Also, are there NXT control blocks in SNAP or are they added by your extension? Thanks.

@learnegy Thanks! Snap-NXT will only work with stock NXTs. The Snap-NXT.xml file holds the blocks that you can import into Snap!.

There is a nice YouTube video that showcases Snap-NXT here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Bf5ve198Q

The Lego Mindstorms system is a robotics kit by Lego. Just Google ‘Lego Mindstorms’ .

@technoboy10: Wow! Now I have to find a Wii remote! Does the remote communicate with the brick via Bluetooth?

Nope, I used my WiiSnap extension for Snap!. You can find all of my Snap! extensions here: http://github.com/technoboy10.

Not quite yet, but we're working on it.

It seems like Berkeley's really building off of Scratch! (BYOB, Snap)

I just found out about Enchanting, but now I need to also look at Snap+NXT. Very exciting!

I have tried teaching middle school kids some RobotC but it is a nightmare with syntax. Scratch really is close enough visually (with nesting/variables/etc) that I think using this will be much much better but they still learn some transferable skills. However, I have to work out the hardware side… The Enchanting interface seems quite dated IMHO.

Also, I sat down and developed a simple simulation for a Lego NXT shooterbot in Scratch. This was intended to let kids try out logic in software before moving to the hardware. Sensors (touch, light, sonar) seem to work. You can move and shoot. Obstacles and targets are included.

Also, you may want to check out Waterbear inspired by scratch. It lets you see the javascript, but the overall project is not as polished as Scratch.

As far as I know, wedo motors do not work with the NXT. If there's a python library for the WeDo, you could use the blockext extension framework to create an extension for it.

I have a Lego minestorm, it's cool. But I'm not sure how you'd connect it to scratch, perhaps you could use an experimental extension?

hi!
