The problems here are that the people that are following you can't get a notification of your edit unless you speak to them directly, and with your solution, there's the chance someone could play your project while you're editing it, which is something that's kind of bad.

You already send a notification for resharing a project. It just says user shared project though. @griffpatch often does that whenever he updates a game. There are then people who are confused about how he got so many views since it was just “shared.”
