You could maybe talk about something to do with your favourite, or new console, like what you think of a certain feature.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
Developers: SmallBot Entertainment, Santa Monica Studios, Bluepoint Engine | Producer: SONY | Consoles: VITA, PS3
Wanna know the secret to looking forward to the next SMASH BROS? PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale of course! This is the competitor to the long running Smash Bros. series and it is totally worth the money. This game features an in-depth 2-part tutorial (where at the start, you play the beginner tutorial where you learn how to play the game) and then sends you into battle with 15+ characters, each from a different PlayStation world (characters include Spike, PaRappa, Sackboy, Toro, Ratchet, and Jak). To my own surprise, the characters Spyro (Skylanders Universe and Spyro Series) and Crash (Crash Bandicoot) were not featured in this game. But it makes up for it with the new stages which are all not 1 stage each. Each changes as players progress through the stage. The new Super meter adds a layer of fun to the game, because you cannot be knocked off the stage unless a player activates their Super. Level 1 is a counter move that can be evaded easily or disrupted. Level 2 is a special move that can be evaded by your speed. Level 3 is a final move where all players are affected and can be defeated once or twice depending on how long the move is. The gameplay is very addicting and you can go back and get more ranks for a character to get more stuff (backgrounds, minions, outifts, taunts, intros, outros, and victory songs). Be careful online though. There are some very experienced players.

POKEMON OMEGA RUBY AND ALPHA SAPPHIRE

E3. Possibly the gaming community's favorite event. Many games were revealed, such as The Sims 4, Halo 5: Guardians, and, Kingdom Hearts 3. But, the games I am most excited for(and most of the Pokemon fans) are Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, reboots of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Revisiting the Hoenn region also comes in with original third generation Pokemon, but with new Mega Evolutions and now in a 3D setting like Pokemon X and Y had. In this game, the two legendary Pokemon are Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. The game 's protagonists look very similar to the original third generation ones, but of course, in 3D and are different in the clothing styles. They continue to have the original starter Pokemon, like other reboots. Also, you start in Littleroot town, just like the original games. The games are set to come out November 21, 2014. I have very high hopes for these games, and I hope I am not disappointed. I so far would give the game a 8/10.
None of the games/franchises mentioned belong to me or to Scratch Gamer Magazine. Only the article written belongs to Scratch Gamer Magazine.

Mario Kart 8 Review

Mario Kart has a long and most importantly, fun history. I enjoy nothing than getting a few friends round for a game of Mario Kart, having fun, murdering the person who threw the blue shell, the usual. Nonetheless you can consider me a huge Mario Kart fan, I have every game apart from Double Dash, (no I do not own the arcade games) and most weeks heavily consist of me having a round of it online. Naturally, like everyone else I was super excited for the new game, Mario Kart 8, to come out. I was not disappointed.

You would think after 8 games the developers might run out of ideas, nope. Each game something new is added and in some cases these new things become staples in the series like how DS brought us online and 7 brought us gliding and how 8 brings us anti gravity. The thing itself is subtle, you don't really realize your upside down until you begin seeing castles at a funny angle which may make it seem like a pointless gimmick, this is however not the case. What anti gravity does allow is a much more varied stage design, this time your going up walls, down mountains, across eels and up and down water falls, things which may of seemed out of place in previous installments. But it's not just that, the feel of your kart also changes to be a little lighter and handle a little looser compared to when you are on normal ground. Hitting things is also encouraged while in these segments, bumping into other players and certain objects now causes a speed boost which completely changes the way you play.

Control in this game is excellent, I really feel like I have complete control over my kart and going back to older games either makes them feel too stiff or too loose as 8 hits it in the sweet spot. There is many control options, my personal favourate is the gamepad and pro controller options but I know many people enjoy using the Wiimote in the wheel, which is improved on since Wii but I still don't feel it's quite precise enough for my taste. You can also use a classic controller, but I don't have one.

The stage design is outstanding, by far the best in the series. All the new tracks feel fun, outrageous and refreshing while the retro course selection changes these courses up enough to feel different but still be the same. This games Star Cup is the stand out, all four tracks line up as some of the best the game has to offer in one streak. The only dud is Rainbow Road, it's boring and uninspired which is radically different from every other stage in the game, why? At least the return of Rainbow Road 64 is great.

The item selection is pretty good, of course you have the usual with Fire Flower brought back from 7 as well as some new items. The Boomerang is pretty effective at taking out multiple people at once as long as you have a good aim. The Piranha Plant item bites the air and other players to give speed boosts and is pretty potent if you are next a group of people. The Super Horn is amazing as it can take out the blue shell, thank god. It may be rare when the super horn actually appears but blue shells are also now uncommon so it's pretty well done. Coins from the original Mario Kart have returned, they come always when your in first place and already have your coins maxed out, they can get annoying. You are also left defenseless when you get the coins meaning that a red shell is all it takes. However this turns it more into a game of risk and forces you to change your strategy whic h is something I enjoy.

The online mode is outstanding, you get into a match quickly and once there you never need to wait long for the next move. Since I haven't mentioned it yet the game is beautiful and runs at 60 frames per second, a frame rate which remains online and in 2 player spit screen, really harnessing the power of the Wii U. You can also set up tournaments this time which can be fun.

The only bad thing in this game is Battle Mode. Instead of normal battle arenas, you now fight on normal race courses. It doesn't work. You spend half the time trying to find someone and by the time you do the timers nearly out, its boring and stupid and most likely a product of a shortened development cycle.

Overall, we can just sweep Battle Mode under the rug because the main racing element is so good in this game, it is the biggest reason yet to get a Wii U because let's face it who doesn't like Mario Kart? And out of all the Mario Karts this one is my personal favorite. The control, stage deign and online play and all supreme and completely supersede what came before it, hands down.

9.5/10

EDIT: Also, stor, can you remind us of what Press Start to Play is? Somebody asked, and I don't want to give them a false answer.

I'll be writing one or two more articles, but we have enough reviews for now. You can check the first post for different article types you can choose from.

We could upload it on that scratch gamer account you made, and then I'll just remix it. To be honest I'd prefer to carry on from 30, I just thought since this was your show you might want a new volume.

Retro Revival: Super Off Road (NES)

When it comes to racing games on the NES, there isn't really much to talk about. Of course there's classics such as Rc Pro Am and…. not really much else. Today we are talking about the arcade port of Super Off Road, all though I have never played the arcade original or any other ports there may be, this already gets a thumbs up as it is one of the games that can use the NES Four Score which allows for 4 player support. It works really well to, the game is confined to seeing the whole race track because split screen wasn't invented and it surprisingly works with few issues, at least a lot better than when Rc Pro Am 2 attempted 4 player multiplayer where it still scrolled through the stage so no player could fall behind the leading players more than a few in game meters, it really doesn't work.

The graphics are okay for an NES game, they work but aren't very inspired. The control is actually very good, while it doesn't feel as natural as Rc Pro Am, it works and the car-truck things are a joy to steer and the game doesn't use up and down on the D-pad just side to side as you use A to accelerate and I really felt like the trucks had weight and timing it just right to get them round the corner in the quickest and most efficient way was great fun. This game also has nitros which act like mushrooms in Mario Kart and give a little speed boost. Your given about 20 of them to begin with and use them wisely as you can buy more in the shop but they are expensive and it is a rare occasion where a free one appears on the track. Speaking of the shop you can pick up money from the track as well as earn it for winning races and can spend your winnings at the end of each race to upgrade your car. It's best to spend wisely and evenly, if you don't you'll find the computers (and your friends) dashing ahead. It's this shop dynamic which pushes it ahead of other early racing games as you have a bigger incentive to win than just to win, you need that money to get more stuff for your car or you won't be able to win many races again.

Overall, I really enjoy Super Off Road and did have a chance to play it with friends, it's great fun! The controls, the shop and the design elements are very fun indeed. However it does have quite a draw back of being highly repetitive with few stage designs and some of the tracks are just weird and it's easy to get confused and go the wrong way. However if your looking for a fun NES game to play with lots of your friends and utilize the four score, this is a good one to buy.

8.5/10

Press Start to Play
Level 1 - James Rolfe
After I watched some of the AVGN episodes, it shown to me that our current games here aren't nearly as bad as the earlier generations. I have made a list of games I don't want any day thanks to him putting them in their place (in order)
10 - Big Rigs (It is all a lie and glitch mania in this horrifying game. Do not be as glitchy as this monster)
9 - Superman 64 (Only the nerd can make games like this cry themselves to sleep. After completing many trials the game finally decides to let you explore. 1 trial failed and it is back to square 1)
8 - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (An ljn game. No other info needed.)
7 - E.T. for Atari 2600 (Do I need to explain?)
6 - Pac-Man for Atari 2600 (It was mentioned on G4 that it was NOT the game in the arcade or on the NES)
5 - Street Fighter 2012 (This might've been a clone of another game. If I wanted to play Street Fighter, I'd play Street Fighter 4.)
4 - The Karate Kid (3 HARD LEVELS. SO many enemies. This proves that gamers have a lot to learn.)
3 - Batman for R-Zone (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
2 - Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde for NES (Even though it's hard, it shows that it simulates life. If evil gets ahead you lose as Hyde. The staff doesn't do anything either because Jekyl is trying to be a normal citizen.)
1 - Plumbers Don't Wear Ties for 3DO (No explanation needed, you want to see it? Check out the episode by James Rolfe.)
Don't let me play those games, please.

Great reviews everyone. Anybody want to do an opinion or history article? If we're lucky, we could have an issue this Friday.

EDIT: Also, stor, can you remind us of what Press Start to Play is? Somebody asked, and I don't want to give them a false answer.

ARTICLES SO FAR: 4 (all reviews)

I'll be writing one or two more articles, but we have enough reviews for now. You can check the first post for different article types you can choose from.
Ask PJ9, he was the writer of it, I'm not too certain myself.
Here's your answer, Press Start to Play is a section where we talk about current happenings, review one type of gaming, and/or make top 10s (see the first edition of the first PStP in the reboot)

No way are modern games better than classic games, they both have their ups and downs and turds, there are as many bad games today being released as there were back then. (Apart from the Atari 2600 era, I'll give you that).
