Very new to this, but I'm using the controls at the top of the screen to shrink or grow newly imported Sprites and it seems that they don't always work. For some Sprites, absolutely nothing happens, whilst for others in the same project it works just fine.

What am I missing?

Maybe it’s the biggest it can be? Maybe using this will help

change size by (...)

Also trying where you edit the actual image might work too

If you look at the grey bar above your project (where it says file, edit ect) there are two buttons in a group of five that can grow and shrink

Same, my sprite used to work fine. Then when adjusting the size, it gets stuck on 40

Also on 3.0, for some reason a sprite is stuck on size 39.

I think the maximum size is 449

If anyone else has a similar question, you should make a new topic asking your question rather than posting on old ones.

The maximum size is not necessarily 449; it depends on how big the sprite itself is in the costume editor. The smaller the size, the larger the maximum.
