Welcome! In this collaboration we are creating a superhero universe with new superheroes/villains. ALL OF IT MUST BE ORIGINAL!

I've been thinking, that he could be a spy in their midst.

Here's the shifter's backstory.
He used to be on the superhero's side, but he decided that being selfless was not the way to go. He was tempted by another villain, called The Shadow Monster, to join their side. The Shifter did, and his previous name was Shapeshifter. When he joined their side, the other villains at a ‘villain HQ’ told him that they would change his name to The Shifter. He agreed, and they then sent him on a dangerous mission: To spy for the heroes. He said he would, and he used his power for the worse, not for the better from that day on.

Now, onto the Shadow Monster.
He can become a shadow himself, and is a dangerous foe. He could be the leader of the Villains, with a death sentence for any disobedience. Even the tinest bit wrong can make him angry. When he's inside someone's shadow, he can leap out and attack them, ending in their death, or the victim lives as a ghost.

The Shadow monster usually takes on a human-magic construct, when he's with the villains, but most of the time he's invisible, and when he pounces on the victim, his body becomes extremely thin and becomes 2D, but only at that point in time. He climbs up as a vine, and right at the throat, the moster leaps out and becomes 3D and suffocates his victims at the throat, or injects a bit of his soul into the victim, allowing the monster to live forever.

The shadow monster got his powers from the first person he killed, and his spirited was dragged away by the dead person's spirit. He headed to hell with his spirit and the guardian of hell granted one power for his every wish.

The Shifter was granted his powers when he joined a superhero acadamey. Each student has to touch an object, the object speaks to the holder and grants them a power and a name.
