s2online: Easily run Scratch 2.0 projects in your web browser!

Well, I fixed project exporting! The code's not online yet, but when it is, you'll be able to export your .sb2 projects onto your computer. Anyway, hopefully it'll help me figure out the rest of this 1.4 text situation..

OK, it's all done! - Text should import properly now: https://s2online.github.io/#10006824

You can also download projects as .sb2s directly from s2online, instead of using MATU's project downloader, if you prefer – this is handy if you want to save any changes to the project you made in 2.0.

I just noticed this, that's great! It will be also handy for people who prefer the old 2.0 editor (I don't really mind in terms of the editor itself but I know some people do), I'm gonna put it into my signature!

Thanks! Yeah, same here – honestly in just about every way I prefer Scratch 3.0, but I know some people prefer 2.0. And some of those people can't download the Scratch 2 offline editor, either because they're on Linux or a Chromebook, so I figure s2online might be useful to them. Thanks for sticking a link in your signature!

No problem! I hope the link in my signature helps people who are unable to download the offline editor, as you said.

Heya! I really like using this editor, it helps me work with several projects that are for some reason unstable in Scratch 2 Offline. But recently I've been trying to download the projects I work on (by clicking “save”) and it hasn't been functioning properly. I'm using Chrome and the downloads bar says
"download
Failed - Network error"
Sprites can still be downloaded individually though. It's very weird.
I don't know whether this is a problem with the editor or a problem on my end. If you can look into it, that'd be very nice!
(Project downloads from here used to work perfectly fine)

You know why they call ‘em “speed bumps”?
It’s because you're supposed to go super fast so when ya hit it, ya go flying through the air!

Hey there. I'm Hahasamian! I make Sonic game projects! I'm 18, so I'm growing out of growing out of Scratch, but I do wanna do something cool here first. Work's been a bit slow lately, but I try to put something good out every now-and-again!

You can check out all my existing projects by heading to my profile (here).

Cannot reproduce - project downloads work fine for me. I wonder what's causing it, any ideas @_nix?

It could very well be something on my end, that's why I'm asking.

Thanks! - And thanks for letting me know. Good to know that downloads were working from here, before - that issues out a bunch of potential causes, and means it could be something I can try to fix.

My first guess would be that the exported project file might be too large, perhaps. Is the project you're working on large? - If you open a new project (by just going to s2online and not selecting a project to open), and try to download that, does it successfully save the file (or does it show that same error)?

(PS: When I say “too large”, I just mean “too large for my current code to handle” – I might be able to figure out how to let it download bigger files. But first we have to be sure of whether that's the issue or not, which is why I'm asking you those questions. :P)

Hmm, uh, nope. That's not the problem. (tested with another project that's smaller) Probably has something to do with my internet or some random restriction service then. Other things download just fine though, so I just thought I'd bring this up.

Hm, alright! That's interesting! On the one hand, it seems a little unlikely that it's your internet per se, since project downloading (despite the name) is really just transferring memory from RAM into your hard drive (no internet connection required), but it might be some kind of automatic restriction on the computer…. but the fact that other things download properly means that perhaps it's not. This is a mystery, to be certain!

Definitely don't feel obligated to follow along here, but - have you ever used the browser console before? Like, inspect element and the console log that shows up next to it. If you have, Scratch might be logging an error into that console when it fails to download. If you notice an error popping up in there right after you save the file, and you copy-paste it into a forum post, I might be able to take a closer look and see if there's any useful information in it. (Then again, there might not be an error message in the console at all.. debugging is hard. )

If you don't want to check the console for that, no worries! - Have you tried opening s2online in another web browser, like Firefox or Edge/Safari? You might have better luck trying in a different browser. Maybe.

What about the scratchx.org/#scratch extension site editor?

Oh, good point, I forgot about it. But ScratchX can't open a project given its ID/URL – that's the main benefit of s2online.

Oh, whoops
Why can't I keep up with these forums…
Got a lot of notifs coming through I guess. Lost these.

Well, project saving works for me again. I remember it opening up an export menu instead of putting it in the downloads folder, but hey, this works.
If you changed anything, thanks! And thanks for responding too! That's always nice.
aaaaaaand nevermind… it only saves… empty projects…
Thanks anyway! I might look into the issue, but someone recommended ScratchX and that actually works out pretty well.

Yikes, weird! Project downloading is working fine for me, so that's pretty weird. Good to know ScratchX is working as an alternative for you. If you look into that problem (but you've no obligation to do so), tell me if you find out anything.

Basically, yeah. This site'll still be around though. It's free to host (it's on GitHub Pages), and it'll always be useful to folx who do happen to still have Flash on their browser.

Google has announced to not support Flash on Chrome in late 2020 proof other browsers might have done the same

That can easily be fixed though.
