Id love to have custom fonts. to change the way my variables look would be amazing

Maybe just add more fonts
But we can't possibly cover the 1000000s of fonts which people might want.
Support. I want the ability to load custom fonts (.ttf or something), because right now I'm using an external program to overlay text.

My kumquats and forum signatures ate each other. Luckily, I did not like any of them anyways.
The evil kumquat must have some relation with thanos cat. Evil kumquat is 2.0 and thanos cat is 3.0

We used to have that in 1.4 - but it did cause a lot of problems.
That's because not every size was available, only a few integers the Scratch Team thought were the best, and it wasn't even possible to hack any integer in. It also didn't allow selecting arbitrary style, so the user only gets the Regular version of a font (and whatever versions the font designer made a separate family). And the text didn't have anti-aliasing. So restrictive, no wonder “it did cause a lot of problems”.
But the problem is, trying to get the custom fonts feature nowadays in Scratch is a whole different scenario. Scratch 2.0 and Scratch 3.0 having vector computing, the fonts would be embedded as vectors, and that right away is a copyright infringement on all rights reserved fonts, because the specific points used for the outlines are copyrighted, and converting to a different format (for example converting quadratic Bezier curves to cubic Bezier curves) is making a derivative work which all rights reserved doesn't allow either. Way different from the non-copyrighted bitmap renderings Scratch 1.4 was outputting.

Custom fonts are a good idea, but what file format would you put them in? What, you're going use the google fonts API?

I think custom fonts should work like this:
A new option in the font picker called ‘import font’'.
As the name suggest, you can import fonts in the ‘ttf’ or ‘otf’ file format.
Then you can use said fonts in your SVG.
But I could see some problems with compatibility… Maybe the custom fonts could be transformed into a set of vector shapes, so that every device could see the font?
