Hello. Im a non-brony. And before you kick me out, throw rocks at me, beat me to death, and dance on my grave, just know that I'm not a hater. And I'm not hating on your show. I'm only here to ask: What's so special about “My Little Pony”? It's just another cartoon. What makes it so much more popular than other cartoons? Think about it. Most other kids-shows have character personalities, story plots, and comedy that are all vary similar to that of “My Little Pony”. But none of those other cartoons are getting nearly as much fame. I don't hate on the show, or the fandom it started. I just believe that the show is over-rated, and I don't understand what makes it so special. Don't start a flame-war with me. Just please help me understand.

No idea. I was a non brony for a long time until i watched all of the episodes in 3 days

OK. So there is an MLP product line(not joking) before the fandom started. The show is based off that. When the Hub show started, a “negative essay” by Amidi was written. That article was attacked on 4chan's /co/ forum. After the second episode, “threads about ponies started to boom on 4chan, gaining the show fans outside of its target demographic. Since then, the fandom has exploded across the Internet.”

Why do people take these smiley characters, and make them look like they're horrifying and posessed by demons, or something?

Of course not! People appreciate most fandoms for what they are. If some fandom is happy, then happy-type people enjoy its postitvity. And if some fandom is creepy, then sickos that enjoy that stuff stick to it, while leaving alone the stuff they don't like. There might be a little creepy/silly art or headcanons about fandoms, but I've never seen any other fandom that has it nearly as much as My Little Pony.
