It was. It was apparently because of the Japanese word “pacu”, meaning “chomp”, or “pacu-pacu” meaning to open and close your mouth.
Apparently the spelling was changed because arcade operators were worried some people could possibly alter it and make it look like a vulgar word.

Anyways, here's another. Hyper Pac-Man. It was released by some Korean company called Semicom in 1995, who, I should note, had absolutely no affiliation with Namco at all. I haven't played it, but it actually looks pretty decent for a bootleg. Also, it's got multiplayer!

Candory. a Korean hack of the 1982 arcade game Ponpoko .and the graphics have been replaced. Ponpoko himself has been replaced with Mario from donkey kong
