Not at my school, they've blocked the install of extensions on Chrome and locked us out of anything that would let it change it.i mean if a student wants to install an adblocker they can do it themselvesThat's a bit stupid, adding an Adblock / Tracker Block (a good thing) and then removing it and getting ads and trackers back (a bad thing).and as soon as i said that, the next day they removed it…YepHuh, my school just added uBlock (literally in the hour) to the growing list of extensions they have on these chromebooks.smart move
Weird how everything in it is just open though… (you would think they would somehow block it) But ain't complaining.(why? There was really nothing wrong with it.)
I'll never understand how School IT works.

Wanna know something funny? So in my school, I tried to reset a computer in my homeroom's classroom and then I made an account called XF, and the password was 1, but then somebody(not the school IT) changed the password, so then I tried to reset another computer in the same classroom but then someone in my homeroom put their username and password they wanted for the computer. Apparently, the DELL computers at my school are so bad that when I tried resetting a computer in my Physical Science(I'm in 7th grade and I take physical science), it became unusable! Like nothing at all was working! The only thing that I can see now is the DELL boot-up screen and then some console thingy saying that Windows was not found or something and then it said, “Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart”. Well actually, I think I broke the computer by resetting it and then turning it off while it was trying to reinstall windows…

For me, I can install extensions at my school. I can even install VPNs and Adblockers. The only problem that I have is that a LOT of websites are blocked. Good thing Coolmath games is not blocked…When I go on a website like the official tank trouble website, I see this screen saying, “Sorry, this website is not available because it is categorized as games.” And then there's an administrator picture at the top of the page that looks like this:Not at my school, they've blocked the install of extensions on Chrome and locked us out of anything that would let it change it.i mean if a student wants to install an adblocker they can do it themselvesThat's a bit stupid, adding an Adblock / Tracker Block (a good thing) and then removing it and getting ads and trackers back (a bad thing).and as soon as i said that, the next day they removed it…YepHuh, my school just added uBlock (literally in the hour) to the growing list of extensions they have on these chromebooks.smart move

Sometimes, it says that a website is categorized as “parked”, and I don't really understand what that is supposed to mean.

Many times, our school PCs for some reason refuses to boot to Windows 7. What happens, we get the Dell logo and it goes off. Then the logo keeps going and coming and would not even boot into Windows. I guess they fix it by reinstall I guess
Before we got an upgrade to some new Dell Optiplex systems, we used to have stupid HP LAPTOPS as our school computers. These laptops werein bad condition and many students removed the keys from the laptop and it ran WINDOWS XP for a long time after its discontinuation date. So, the school threw them away and upgraded the PCs. They said us to be careful with the PCs and told us “not to pick the keys” and “touch the monitor.”. Though recently, someone smashed a computer screen in the lab and the school replaced it after a long time

I'd love it if my teachers actually knew how to use computers properly.

Time to revive this topic again. Here is an update of the things at my school:
The school has finally upgraded computers (yay), so now there are plenty of new HP laptops. They are pretty good, and the school now has 20 for the library and an additional few for the “senior” classroom (classroom only for year 11 and 12).
In addition, teachers have upgraded laptops. Their old ones are now for the students to use. (Basically, the setup is that the library laptops stay in the library, and the old teacher laptops can be “borrowed” from here but can be taken back to be used in the other classrooms. This saves some classes from moving to the computer room for a lesson as the old teacher laptops can be used in class).
Now, there are also really old thinkpad laptops from like 10 years ago. They used to be for borrowing, but have now finally been “decommissioned”. The hard drives, ram, etc is being salvaged and the rest thrown away. (BTW, random fact- the old computers had an administrator password that was literally “administrator”. Of course I found out and used it. Although all I ended up doing was install custom fonts and cpu monitoring apps)
Now here is the bad news:
The school has recently introduced tracking software onto all the computers and laptops. It is called veyon and you can see the github repo here (its open sourced): https://github.com/veyon/veyon
All teachers can see the screens of all devices, so suddenly no one can play games, watch YouTube or do other non-studying things.
They can even send warning messages to students' compters e.g. “stop playing computer games”, or the one i received, “big brother is watching you”, and also remotely shut down computers of anyone who is not doing the right thing.
For now, the only thing I know to prevent spying on my computer is to turn off the internet connection. I am trying to see if there are ways to avoid it or disabling it, but the program is invincible - admin powers are needed to modify the files or even force it to close via task manager or command line.

Well actually, there was a reason why it was used. A performance that happened at the school on the previous day. There was Romeo and Juliet, 1984, The Tempest and Macbeth - 4 texts that have been/will be studied at school for english. (The thing is, this was shown to years 7-12 [note: this is in Australia], and the performances contained acting that probably shouldn't have been shown to the youngest years. [lots of kissing in romeo and juliet, torture and violence in 1984, etc from all the performances])

I would do that at my School (we use smoothwall) but it blocks every search for “* Smoothwall *” (so wildcard on both sides) for “Proxies” and “Computer Misuse” which if you are found guilty of (because it tells principal) you get sent to Internal Exclusion where a policewoman will keep your there, in silence, doing work, for 7 hours.Time to revive this topic again.
