What Scratch 3 Should Be Like in the Next Update

-WHAT THE NEXT SCRATCH 3 UPDATE SHOULD INCLUDE-

Hello, I'm here to share Idea's for the next update for Scratch 3! Here's the list:

  • Bring back video recording. It could help for if you want to make a game play video for your game, and increase the time limit to 5 minutes instead of 1 minute.

  • Get more extensions. Keep all of the Scratch 3 extensions there currently are, but add in some new ones like the ones from Scratch 2. Also, please make a feature where you can upload an experimental extension (scratchx.org/#extensions) or a custom extension (griffpatch.github.io/scratch-gui, griffpatch's Box2D physics extension). There should also be a button you press where you can make your own extension, and have an option whether other people could use it or not.

  • Update the look of Scratch 3. It seems like the current format of the project editor is confusing and looks like Scratch Jr., which many people aren't big fans of. The format could look like something between Scratch 2 and 3.

  • Make a 16:9/4:3 aspect ratio option. Many people have desktops that are square (4:3), but lots of people also have wide-screen (16:9) computers. Many people are asking for this option to happen, and it would affect Scratch greatly (in a good way) if it was added.

  • Make a GIF thumbnail option. GIF's could be used as a project thumbnail, and people already have them, but the thing is, that some people can't use those notepad soft wares to put a GIF into a project, so there could be an option if you want a plain image or a GIF.

  • Update image editor. The image editor is pretty nice, but it is kind of hard to get a color. There should be a box with tiles with saved colors you have used (kind of like the backpack).

  • Update sound editor. Update the sound editor to the one it was in Scratch 2.0.

  • Add collaboration projects. There should be an option where a person can share project edit's to another person, and they could collab on one project live.

When/if you update Scratch 3, also add these changes to the offline editor.

That is all for now! If you have other idea's for this forum, comment them in this forum.
Thank you-

Next time, please make a separate topic for each suggestion.

Full support on this one. It's useful for sharing videos to teach a game or something like that. Right now, though, the Scratch Team is focused on fixing the bugs and glitches in Scratch 3.0.

There's a whole big process to get a new extension on Scratch(For Some Anyway). Making the process easier could mess up a lot of stuff, considering how much thinking has to go into it. I once saw a Spotify extension, and Scratch could get sued by Spotify if what you are suggesting happened.

Update the look of Scratch 3. It seems like the current format of the project editor is confusing and looks like Scratch Jr., which many people aren't big fans of. The format could look like something between Scratch 2 and 3.
Sorry, that's (somewhat)rejected.

2.3 Set the editor to look like older versions of Scratch
Some users prefer the look and feel of the Scratch 2.0 editor, and have suggested that the editor look like Scratch 2.0, but still run off of HTML5 like Scratch 3.0 does. However, this would be more complicated for educational and documentation purposes. It could be confusing if someone is trying to learn Scratch from someone who is using a completely different layout of the editor than them.

In addition, the Scratch Team changed the design for a reason: to make it easier, more intuitive, and friendlier for newcomers to use. If you dislike the Scratch 3.0 editor, you can still download the Scratch 1.4 or Scratch 2.0 offline editors; for more information, see #2.4 on this list.

However, the Scratch Team is still considering adding options to change the block size inside the editor, an option to switch the side of the screen the stage is on, and an option for a dark mode interface. It may be some time, though, before these ideas are implemented; please be patient.

I'm pretty sure that was 1 of the features that Scratch would introduce in Scratch 3.0. But again, the Scratch Team is mainly focused on fixing 3.0. Remember, it was built hastily, due to Flash losing security updates.(Not saying 3.0 is bad though)

They're also working on adding that, as far as I know. But it helps quoting this now.

Support. If you're an artist, it's very helpful to have some special saved colors that you know.

Update sound editor. Update the sound editor to the one it was in Scratch 2.0.
Paddle2See speaks on why they changed the sound editor.

Paddle2See wrote:

No, I believe that was by design. My understanding is that we got feedback that the old sound selection approach was causing problems for a lot of people. The new design is simpler - but obviously more limited.

However, this isn't rejected, go to the above post to discuss it.

When/if you update Scratch 3, also add these changes to the offline editor.

If these were implemented, the Scratch Team would work hard to bring them to the offline editor.
