Suggestions Involving Project Review Status

Most Scratchers will probably know about the project review status. This is when a project can get removed or marked as NFE. If you don't know about it, then that's not a problem! You can find out about it here!

Anyway, I personally like the fact that Scratch is a child-friendly website, so I also like the project review status feature! I do, however, think that it should be improved slightly, which is what this forum topic is about. I have some ideas, and you are also welcome to post more on the topic! I'll add them to the list if they're reasonable! Feedback is also appreciated!

2020 Sepy:
Right.
Had to change a lot here. Many ideas that I had weren't great. Sorry.

Here is a list of features that I think should be added to the project review status:

  • I think that there could be a small community guidelines notes around the site. Possibly. They could just be lists of rules/guidelines that are to be followed. Maybe these would be useful around the site's comment areas etc.

  • Not really related, but I think studios should be able to have tags like projects.

  • Possibly split NFE into two: 10+ and 12+. This could be included in the already-mentioned guide.

I don't mean you would need an account age, it just means 10+ is a lesser version of NFE. There could be an option, maybe, to include this sort of thing in your profile's options, which wouldn't be as dangerous as an option basically saying, ‘Okay search function, bring me all the violent stuff,’ as I suggested previously.

  • Maybe include a system for epilepsy warnings? Like, a checkbox or something.

Thanks!

Suggestions Involving Project Review Status

You should be able to mark your own projects/studios as NFE. This, for example, would be useful when making a project related to games that are rated 12+ (such as BATIM) but, although maybe slightly violent or containing slightly bad language, don't make major violations to the Community Guidelines. Responsible users can instead mark their own projects/studios. I am aware that most of the time there would be no need to include violence, but I think that it would, on rare occasions, be needed. That being said, members of the community who are 8-9 or 10 probably should not be seeing this content.
I don't think this would work well. The NFE tag is more than just a tag — it also prevents projects from reaching the front page and rarely appears in search results. As a result, someone could make a really inappropriate project and just mark it NFE. That would decrease the chance that the Scratch Team finds it, and decreases the chance that someone could find it and report it as needed.

I agree with this — it could help. We could probably just use a section of what is allowed and what isn't — we don't necessarily need a whole separate category for NFE projects.

I think that projects and studios should be able to be tagged with things like ‘Violence’ or ‘BATIM’ or things like that. When searching, this could be in an advanced options window so that all things could be toggled on and off. I know that this means all of the problems are gathered in one place, however, so this may have to be done in a different way…
You could use tags already, right? I don't think we need such a system just to be able to view violent projects.

I guess I can agree with this. Maybe they could use the hashtag system when they upgrade forum pages to 3.0.

I don't think this would help anything. There isn't really a point to age-restricting stuff on Scratch because you can just lie about your age when you create an account.

Alongside violence, swearing and other things, people can also have certain phobias. Maybe this could be able to be tagged too.
I think a simple tag or warning in the Notes and Credits could do the job here. No need to create a separate rating for phobias.

Overall, you have some good ideas, but I don't think it's necessary to change the NFE rating at all. Age-restricting stuff on Scratch isn't the best idea, and the NFE rating is there for a reason — we don't really need ways to make it easier to find such projects.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.
