What Makes A Good Question? Please Read Before Creating A Topic!
DISCLAIMER: Please do NOT post your questions here! To ask a question, create a new topic on this discussion page (details on how to listed below). Thank you!
Heyo! The Questions About Scratch Forum is one of the most used in all of the Scratch Forums. This means that there are many users asking many questions. To ensure that your question stands out and is answered in the best possible way, I suggest looking through this nifty little checklist before posting!
Has your question passed the checklist above? If so, I'd say that you have the green light and should be good to go in posting it! If you're topic has been up for a little and still isn't being answered, I'd highly suggest bumping it! Read below for more info.
I hope this helps the next time you post a question! Thank you for reading, and Scratch on!
Last Edit: Update directory link (7) & minor changes
Heyo! The Questions About Scratch Forum is one of the most used in all of the Scratch Forums. This means that there are many users asking many questions. To ensure that your question stands out and is answered in the best possible way, I suggest looking through this nifty little checklist before posting!
1. How do you make a topic?
This is a bit of a prerequisite to making your question(s). If you've been looking around the forums and seeing all of these “topic” things, but don't know how to make one of your own, here's how!
Step 1. Go to the Questions about Scratch Forum page.
Step 2. In the top right corner, there is a button titled “New Topic.” Click that. (Picture below - note that the button is now purple instead of blue)
Step 3. Add in your question's title and the additional information you want in it in the two boxes provided (they will show up once you click the “New Topic” button.
2. Has it been asked before?
This is a HUGE one! There are so many questions that are re-posted even though an answer has already been given. Definitely check out these topics before asking a question to make sure that it hasn't already been answered (It will save you tons of time):
- QAS Question Dictionary
- Any of the other pinned topics (the directory will have the most, though)!
3. Is it detailed?
If you have a question that is too vague, users most likely can't answer it (at least in one comment without asking a question back). To help them out and make sure that your question is answered as quick as possible, make sure that you make it as detailed and descriptive as you can. Here is an example of a detailed and non-detailed question:
Good Example:Hello. I am a pretty new Scratcher, so I'm still figuring out the website. When I try to make multiple posts on the forum, it makes me wait for 2 minutes. Why does it do that? I have an image of it below. Thanks for your help!
Bad Example:why it no let me post more times?
4. Is it phrased politely?
People helping out answering questions are doing just that: helping. They are not required to answer any of the questions you ask, so if you aren't nice to them, they probably won't. This also falls into the Community Guidelines as a reminder to Be Respectful. Here is an example of a polite and impolite question:
Good Example:Hi there! I was wondering what a studio is, and why there are “Managers” and “Curators” in it. Would you be able to explain this? Thank you so much for helping! Scratch on!
Bad Example:TELL ME WAT THE STUDIO AND MANAGER AND CURATORS IN IT ARE AND STUFF NOW OR ELSE I WILL REPORT U AND U WILL GET BANNED!!!! ANSWER NOW OR ELSE!!!!!!!!
5. Is it an actual question?
I know that this may sound weird, but this is an actual point. Some users simply create topics here just to create a topic, and that isn't cool. Before making a topic, please make sure that it isn't irrelevant to the topic, spam, and/or in the incorrect section. If you want to advertise your project, please don't post it in the Questions About Scratch Forum; instead post it in the Show and Tell Forum! Though mistakes can happen, we shouldn't add to the Scratch Team's workload by making them lock, delete, or move forum topics because of a careless mistake or spam; please don't make them do it any more than they already have to.
Has your question passed the checklist above? If so, I'd say that you have the green light and should be good to go in posting it! If you're topic has been up for a little and still isn't being answered, I'd highly suggest bumping it! Read below for more info.
6. Should I bump my topic?
First of all, what exactly does it mean to bump a topic? If you say “bump” in a reply to your forum topic, it will automatically move the topic from wherever its location may be on the forum to the very top (below the stickied topics). This will make it more likely for people to notice your topic and answer the question in it. IMPORTANT NOTE: Though bumping your topic is very helpful, please only do it once every 24 hours (at MOST). Doing it continuously is not cool because it makes it so that other users can't get their topic answered.
I hope this helps the next time you post a question! Thank you for reading, and Scratch on!

This is very good material!
I would like to sticky it - but we already have a lot of sticky topics and we really need to watch how many we make as it interferes with the other topics. Do you think you could incorporate the important information in this current sticky topic so we can retire it and replace it with this topic?
